Yes, this is a forum of magicians. We know how the scams work.

Well two posters in this thread admitted to getting scammed this way. So clearly not everyone is as knowledgeable as you in this matter.

School for Scoundrels, Whit Haydn and Chef Anton's company have very nice and thorough DVDs on the three shell game, fast and loose and three cards monty. A lot more to it than it seems.

Currently reading White Magic by Jasper Maskelyne. I'm up to a wonderful tale of the card sharp Bianco. He purchased 30, 000 packs of cards in Spain. Marked them in a complicated way only detectable to himself. Then sold them dirt cheap in Havana. The clubs were unable to resist the cheap good quality cards. Over the next year he developed his system for reading them easily, while flooding the market with his home marked decks. He then made his fortune gambling in all the casinos using his cards. Now that is a hustle.

That is a genius idea, now how to become a Bicycle wholeseller and sell to casinos in Torbay...
Anyway I thought you could run a great scam using the Wonderlock, £1 a go win a tenner and you can check the lock and open it yourself easy money.

another thing you should be careful of is the pickpockets that work as part of the teams as well. So is not even safe to stand by knowing its a scam and knowing not to put money down :(

When I do this, I write down how much people would lose and win on a piece of paper (nice tip from a police-officer clued up on 3 card-monte, he'd go round showing people how it was a scam).

I do wonder though, if it weren't for stooges, and truly a 1-man-gang on the monte game, just doing the overhand method, and if they picked the right card, they would get the money, would that be legal?

Another person who explains (ie exposes secrets for cash) how to do this is Sal Piacente (http://www.salthehitman.com/Wanted.html)

Buy his DVDs or lecture notes.

AFAIK, the problem's not just that they're being scammed out of money, but that there are strict laws on where and when gambling is permitted...

That said, I'm not an expert on the monte, but couldn't a mexican turnover (is that completely the wrong name?) be used there?
