Card Cheating DVDs

Postby DanielKnox » Apr 7th, '09, 12:30

I want to be able to perform some gambling routines but I don't know what I should learn from because the are LOADS of card cheating dvds.
I would like it to include:

FALSE DEALING

Bottom Deal

Second Deal

Center Deal

FALSE SHUFFLING

Push Through Riffle Shuffle

Zarrow Shuffle

Up The Ladder

CARD STACKING

Overhand Stack

Riffle Stack

Undercut Stack

If the dvd includes other gambling moves I don't mind but these are just the moves I want to learn at the moment.

Ok I can perform quite advanced card stuff. I've almost perfected the second deal from expert card technique it also teaches the bottom deal but i feel it doesn't go into much detail about that because i have the right grip and technique i think but I just can't get it looking like a normal deal so i think a dvd would help. I am practicing bottom dealing everyday now. The middle deal i have seen it being performed before and I like the look of being able to demonstrate a gambling routine based on the centre deal. I've got the idea of the push through and the Zarrow shuffle but can't perform them to well again i feel a dvd will help. I can just about riffle stack a texas hold'em hand but can't do it with 5/4 cards. I can undercut and overhand stack sort of well but again I learnt these from the internet. I don't have much experience in card cheating just card magic but I am very keen to learn card cheating (not for actual games but poker demonstrations) and I am prepared to put in lots of practice.

Some of those moves and sleights you mentioned are seriously advanced. How experienced are you?

Minimum of several years work, if you are going to legimately pull that off. If it's a pseudo gambling routine, then all is well.

Good luck with the riffle stacking! It took Darwin Ortiz 6 years to learn how to do the Double Duke, which is a type of Riffle Stack. So I'd say more than several years.

Also, Bottom and Centre Dealing are things you need to work on daily, even when you can do them perfectly.

But it also depends what you want to do it for. If it is just for showing a laymen (ala Steve Forte) then they don't have to be incredibly perfect, but if you want to actually try and let them fly in a game, then boy have you got your work cut out.

EDIT. Oh, and a good place is the Fast Company DVD by Damien Nieman. Weapons of the Card Shark 1 and 2 by Jeff Wessmiller. Ian Kendall's DVD on Tops, Seconds and Bottoms is good.

You'll get all of these and more on Fast Conmpany as well as a number of good routines to use with your new found skills.

As said, it's not easy stuff to learn, no matter where the source comes from but if you put the time and effort into learning then there is no reason why you won't get there.

My advice is ........ Don't let the hard work put you off learning this stuff. If you want it bad enough you WILL succeed.

Good luck!

I'd also put in a good word for the Fast Company DVD- and if you follow the link that dat posted previously on this thread, you'll see I've left a post with a link where you can find the DVD at its cheapest.

Good luck honing your skills my friend- as another cardie I can wholeheartedly agree with Lenoir and all the others who've said that it will take years of practice to perfect these skills- A lot of my card work revolves around gambling and gambling themed routines, so if you do have any questions, just pop me a PM and I'll be glad to help :D

EDIT: On reflection, I don't think the fast company DVDs go into card stacking in any detail, but they're still definitely worth a look- a cheap resource that lists a whole load of gambling related sleights is the book "Card Control" by Arthur Buckley, which you can pick up for a few quid on Amazon.

James, 19, Lifelong student of magic and will carry on learning for the rest of my days if I'm a very lucky boy.

I have been working on this type of material for quite a few years now. I have purchased a number of DVDs, but I have to say the best place to learn the real work will be books. In particular:

The Expert at the Card Table (Erdnase)
Seconds, Centers and Bottoms (Marlo)
The Phantom of the Card Table
Lessons in Dishonesty

There are other books out there, but these will give you the majority of what you are looking for. You may also want to check out the following:

Revelations
The Annotated Erdnase

But, as mentioned in the responses of others, you are looking at years of work before you will be at ready to perform these techniques publicly.

I am prepared to put in a lot of practice Fast Company looks good but doesn't have card stacking so I like the look of Darwin Ortizs card cheating dvd because it covers everything I want.

If anyone has this dvd could you tell me what you think about it and if I should get it???

I think you need to go back a step. Go to the introduction section to let people know what material you already know before they can give informed recommendation.

It is good, as is all of Darwin's material. But, I still believe that your money would be better spent on books, but that is just my opinion.

Don't forget the epic amount of cards you're going to need to buy.

Darwin's Card Cheating DVD just shows you the cheating moves, sometimes as a demo and other times as an exposed view, though he never actually teaches the moves. Like Steve Forte's Gambling Protection Series, although I haven't got it, I believe everything is shown from exposed views and can be learnt from.

steve forte is seen as one of the top boys - up there with r. paul wilson, sal piacente and people like that...i'd say go with the forte...

if you want a cheapo starting off point - get the "cheating at poker" dvd, tapes from the late 70s/early 80s shots from under a glass table too...good stuff on there...

hmmm...70s films? glass tables? where have i heard that before?
