Pressure - Daniel Garcia & Dan White

Postby Groovebird » Apr 15th, '09, 13:20

I'm not a big fan of buying things from websites like E or Theory 11 but this trick seemed to good to be true (and it is)

The Effect

A borrowed cell phone is held in one hand - and a balloon is inflated. The cell phone visually penetrates inside of the balloon. It is shown, then given back to the spectator with the cell phone still inside.

The result is a twisted hybrid of visual craziness: the borrowed cell phone is INSIDE of the balloon. The spectator removes it herself. There are no crazy gimmicks. Any cell phone. Any balloon. Nothing but magic.

Cost
19.95 $

Review
Like they say, it is a incredibly simple trick and requires no sleight of hand. It's very visual and magical but.... It doesn't work with everybody.
I performed this trick around a 100 times in the last few weeks and 50 % knew instantly how it was done.
This had nothing to do with a bad technique because there is no technique.

The spectators that don't know how this works are baffled by the effect and think they witnessed a miracle.
The other spectators almost always reacted "yeah, I know how this works, that's really simple, but...cute trick though"
And that made me feel like a 5 year old child that just performed his horrible dance act he learned at school.

Difficulty
this would be a 1. you can learn this trick in under 2 minutes.

Overall
it's a good effect but be carefull for whom you perform this trick because your spectators are smarter then they seem.
I don't do the trick anymore on itself, meaning I use it a utility prop in other routines. e.g. I'm performing a mentalisme effects with cards. I let the spectator pick a card, I put all the cards back in the pack. Blow up a balloon, do pressure (only the first part of the trick). Then I can say there is know way for me te look at the cards and then proceed to guess which card they chose.

I would give this trick a 5/10 (because the trick also has a 50% procent succes rate)

I worked this one out straight away from watching it performed on YouTube and just about every 'bloke' that I've shown it to has worked it out first time but every female has believed the phone to be in the balloon.

Personally, I don't think that it's worth the money and the price is -wait for it - over inflated

It would perhaps be a good introduction for a needle through baloon thought.

If I only perform the first part most people can 'think' how it is done, but then if you misdirect and do 'the move' does that not cancel it out to them? I have fooled a couple of people very well with this, only due to the second part.

But I thought you can hand the balloon over to the spectator and they can see for themselves that their phone is in the balloon? Your statement implies that the spectator cannot be shown the item in the balloon afterwards, but in the video Daniel Garcia states that you can hand the balloon out and it also states this under The Effect, above. If you can't hand the balloon out afterwards, then the method is pretty obvious. But if you can, then....

So can the balloon be handed out to the spectator after the item has supposedly penetrated it?

Not after the initial sucking in, you have to perform a small move and misdirection, then and only then would it be fairly safe to hand it out. But even a very observant spectator could catch on....

Ya, they (like E) like to sell over priced "new effects"..... to pay their bills.

Glad I could help Replicant.

I have actually had good fun with this effect, some people do get wise but its still fun to do and get a giggle,

I have also worked out a very nice way of doing the second part. :D

I am wondering if this may be a fun "thow in" as a segue into something like airtight, card to balloon, etc? It would actually only serve to confuse people (that catch the pressure effect) more when you follow it up with a full balloon that is actually handed out and can be kept blown up as a souvenir....I think it could be a fun start to a routine personally.

Even just watching it the first time on youtube its simple to work out and I am noob

I guess its just getting the bit at the end ie moving the left over balloon to cover it all

I like this as balloons are cheap therefore no need to spend a fortune on props
