Rubik's Remembered Mark Elsdon

Forget about all the other Rubik's Cube tricks you've ever seen:

matching mixed cubes, predictions, 'magically restored' cubes, etc.

When laymen see a Rubik's Cube, they are thinking just one thing -

can the magician solve it? After you've studied this DVD the answer will be simple, "Yes!"

In the first part of this DVD, Mark teaches his full solution for Rubik's Cube.

He covers every possible variation that you might encounter whilst doing the Cube.

His brilliant 7-step solution is quickly learnt and was designed to offer ease of long-term recall.
Once learnt, you will be able to solve any Rubik's Cube in less than two minutes,
anytime you choose, for the rest of your life.

In the second part, Mark provides the full explanation of his reputation-making effect
of solving the Cube apparently from memory, whilst blind-folded.
Plus all the handling subtleties and psychological strategies that
he has developed and honed over thousands of performances are thoroughly explained.

The instruction available on this DVD has previously only been available
to a select group of private students at exclusive, expensive seminars.
Now you, too, can learn this incredible piece of magic.

Whether you choose to perform this effect close-up or on stage, as an opener or a closer, 'Rubik Remembered' is the definitive work on using the world's best selling puzzle in your act.

PLEASE NOTE THAT RUBIK'S CUBE AND BLINDFOLD ARE NOT INCLUDED!

WHAT I SAY

Now Ironically after purchasing this I found out it had just been performed at the Tab Mentis meeting, although I missed it
which is a shame, would have been nice to see it done live...

So to start with I oredered the dvd, then i realised after first watching it that I had no cube!!! lol so down to Toys R Us for a
very well priced £9.99 cube...(most other places are more expensive, the most being £14.99)

Ok so the effect-

Well speaks for itself really, it lets you solve the cube...I took me 12 hours altogether across the course of a week to get the majority of the sequences down.
Then with a weeks break from it, and going back to see what was retained.

Now when you watch this after about 30mins of instructions, squares and colours you start to go a little mad (especially if your colour blind like me)..
The first night i dreamt of squares all night it was actually rather horrific!

Overall- Mark breaks it down in nice manageable chapters...everything is covered over and over again...and the satisfaction of completing it the first time is great.

If you want something a bit different in your act then this is it, the blindfold adds a nice little extra, although i dont think Ill use it in the routine,
I think solving it in under 2 mins is impressive enough as it is....

overall

8/10 the dvd is well made as we expect from Alakazams prodcution. The effect isnt for everyone so its an 8 instead of a 10...and even if you dont want it in your act, aint it fun to be able to finally solve a cube lol

We saw this at Tabula Mentis. It looks good, but for the price, I'd have expected the props (cube and blindfold) to be included.

Yes It should be really...but most of us probably have a cube, and I have a ton of blindfolds...as again most of us probably will at least have one lying around...

Hi Chris;

Did you see that the RK website has video tutorials? Does the DVD provide significantly more information?

Just curious.

Cheers

I was going to buy this when it was released, but realised I could already solve the cube with or without a blindfold. There are numerous websites where you can learn to solve the cube for free and some of them are very good indeed. I think you are paying for Mark's tuition and performance tips in this instance.

Ah this was explained at Tab too... (someone correct me if ive got it a bit worng) but the speed people who do this and their tutorials focus on many many different moves... I believe this version has significantly less and therefore easier and quicker to master...

I thought this was odd because when I learned to solve the cube in the early 1980s (from a book) I'm sure I only used about 6 different moves.

I can't solve the cube using speed cubing moves, which is what I assume SugarPuff is referring to. I take the scenic route, using standard moves to solve each layer at a time. Having said that, it still only takes me about two minutes to solve. Perhaps Mark teaches the speed cubing technique, although this is unlikely because the advertising blurb states...

His brilliant 7-step solution is quickly learnt and was designed to offer ease of long-term recall. Once learnt, you will be able to solve any Rubik's Cube in less than two minutes, anytime you choose, for the rest of your life.

Whatever method Mark teaches, I think it might be worth buying the DVD if this is your kind of thing and you don't already know how to solve a Rubik's Cube.

OK....so your audience is sitting there watching you twist a cube for 2 whole minutes ????

I do hope you have a great performance or brilliant patter to fill the 2 minutes otherwise it seems to me that your audience would be bored out of their heads :?:

Kevin, I don't perform it as a magic effect. It's just a party trick that I do sometimes if someone expresses some interest in it. The fact that I can do it blindfolded was just a natural development for me, given my interest in magic as a hobby. But I don't normally solve it blindfolded unless someone specifically requests it.

surprisingly enough, its quite a nice thing in marks hands.
at Tabular, he handed out the cube to the audience, and asked each person to mix the cube a bit... he then did a couple of other effects whilst it was being mixed.

at the end of his spot,he solved the cube.

and this was how the thing should be done, because we had all invested some emotional involvement into the cube.
staged right,
its just the same as watching someone doing the water torture cell, or a straight jacket escape.. only without water and bondage.

( that's not to say i like the thing... personaly its not me. but mark can get quite a bit from it, which i found a surprise.)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I did think the same about magic squares until I saw John Archer do it so I'd like to see Mark's performance.

Now, solving the cube whilst on view in a water torture cell would certainly be more interesting.....

or maybe as a running gag type effect where you solve 1 line after you finish an effect and then another line after another effect etc. That way it takes far less time and builds up the anticipation ?

you could do it that way.. another way, ideal for m.c's would be to hand it out just before an intermission, then in between each act in teh second half, you solve it a bit more. :)
