What you get: two poker chips in a jewlery case

Effect:
Professional edition of this fine trick, crafted in brass and beautifully presented in a lined jewellery box. If you are not already familiar with this popular trick, the effect is as follows - Two brass chips are shown, one with a white face is held in the left hand, while the other with a black face, is held in the right. The magician closes his hands, and in the blink of an eye the chips change places. Now the black face is in the left hand and the white in the right. This is repeated until the audience begin to suspect that the magician is simply turning the chips over, and that they are actually both black on one side and white on the other. The chips are now turned over and found to be YELLOW and RED on the other sides. Now for the KICKER ENDING...... when the chips are turned over again the sides which were originally black and white are now BLUE and GREEN. They may now be examined!!!

This is one of my favourite tricks it is so visual and so baffling I have had people stunned with this it is so simple to perform and there are several other ways to perform it than the one described in the instructions if you want my routine I will gladly post it in magicians only I found the deal with the plaqying card too messy and I have a plain routine that is so clean it adds to the mystery as the spectator cannot figure how the chips change colour the chips are really well made and are completely examinable afterwards that is what makes the routine so powerful Excellent value for money you wont be dissapointed with this

I got this trick yesterday (thanks for the advice Stephen) and i think its great. Unlike other versions of the trick this one is totally examinable.

i know this is an old thread, but i just got here and saw this in the review index and thought id add my tuppence
i have a set of these, and absolutely love it. one of my favorites.
get some good patter going and they wont know what on earth just happened. someone at work got back from vegas the other day and while we were chatting i realised i had them in my pocket ready to go.

" i went to a casino the other day too, they had these fantastic chips in the vip lounge, check em out theyre that nice i didnt bother cashing 2 of them.i'd won a bundle so thought theyd make a nice souvenir...so anyway, im on my way home, drunk, dancing down the street with this one in this hand and this in the other when i tripped, looked and........"
just seemed like a good way to get away from them just thinking "PROP!"
from then on ive found a fast but very structured patter works incredibly well. its almost delivered as a tongue twister when i do it that i dont think i'd manage after a beer or 6.

well worth it for the look in their face alone at the end of it all.
i love the way they often think theyve figured out how you did a pretty naff effect at the halfway through and that they may be on to you until there (you'll know if youve got them). ive even shown em the entire chips mid way and told em, "yeah yer right, but heres the really cool thing i found with these vip chips"
they are completely visible the whole time the kicker happens with no room to move or do anything visibly dodgy so very effective.
at the end when they pick them up themselves, even if they thought theyd figured it out at the beginning, at that moment they are stumped

not exactly impromtu (ive got setup down to 30 seconds from start to in the pocket ready to go again) and an old method really but compact, very well made and totally baffling.

i was shown the trick done well at the shop before i bought it, and while it was a close call between this and the retractable knife for my latest CUPS outburst this did, indeed, win hands down.

makes a nice change from the latest badger to glass,magic can of drink or whatever's topping the list this week. dont get me wrong, i love all that. its just nice to see a classic effect ive seen used on a much larger scale in a package that can be done anywhere and often in the same situations as the impromptu stunts appreciated by others as much as me

ok i bought this trick ages ago from davenports im not sure what the price was then i think about 30 pounds but it is awful now i used to absolutely love this it was my favourite but after about a month it messed up and now i cant do part of the trick

I can't see how it could mess up ?

I sold mine whish I had not now... but I like the idea of a nice brass one as mine was a poker chip type.

Buy a second set.
Peel of the adhesive colorlayers.
Change them that way that you can repeat the trick (after a switch) back form coloured chips to black and white chips!

Personally I prefer Checker Chip( £14 from the same source) I used this for years and well remember whilst waiting for a Chinese Takeaway once in our local Chinese shop, I used to enterain the Chinese kids whilst waiting.One night, their mother, the lady owner, simply grabbed it off my hands. Examined it throughly. Pushed & pulled it but discovered nothing.
Her husband wanted to book me for Chinese New Year Night at the local ballroom.
The weekly Chinese shop visit was one fo the few times I broke my rule 'Not to pull magic out of my pocket at the drop of a hat'..not even a coolie one'.
Seen too many magicians do this and performed by an inept magician it can Magic sink. I always prefer to perfom as an Act: Stage, Cabaret, Stand Up Close Up or Children's. That is my way.


Checker Chip uses ONE brass chip. It 'changes' from white to black & black to white several times. Then when they think you are just turning it over, both sides become full of black & white squares. Checkered!
Fully examinable and a 4 second reset.

I always regret giving it away a couple of years ago to a younger magician, but the free prawn crackers are still there, every week!

I also got mine from Davenports about a year ago and it always gets great reactions, especially when people think they've sussed you out about just turning the chips over!

It's a shame the reset is not instant, but it is fairly quick and you can't have everything!

£18 well spent!

I have the checker chip as well as the two black and white surprise chips. They are very well made. Am hanging on to mine. I wouldn't dream of selling them. I think the checker chip is hard to get hold of now. I haven't seen it for ages.

In terms of patter with the B/W suprise, there's a thing I do with a lot of little effects like this (not more than once to each audience, obviously) which usually goes down well with couples.

"In every couple, there's usually a smart one and one that's kind of...not the smart one"

(they always look at each other and giggle)

"And frankly, we all know who we are, don't we?"

(They invariably both nod)

"So I've got two questions; one for the brainiac and one for the one who's like me. Who's who here?"

They tell you.

"OK - first for you (the notionally 'less bright' one) how does this happen?"

Then do the black/white changing hands bit. Ray Charles could have seen through this, and so he tells you that you're flipping them over.

"Quite right. Not so dumb, huh? Now a harder question (to the other one) So how is it that if I've got a red (first change) and a yellow (second change) that when I turn them over they're blue and green?"

She/he obviously doesn't have an nswer, and I think this drives the impact home really well.

This bit with the clever/less clever halves of a couple works well for lots of effects. A note though - I can carry it off with the type of personality I've got. Do take care that you're not going to offend anyone by choosing the wrong couple or being too blunt.
