Server speed

Anyone else noticed TM being really painfully slow lately?
Can anything be done about it, mods?

Forum speed varies from time to time and is usually for reasons way beyond our control as we don't own or run the servers, sorry.

I've noticed that the forums are usually slowest late at night but it's not slow enough to annoy me. Perhaps the owner carries out maintenance work when most people are tucked up in bed.

Yeah, they run slow at night as the backups happen. But there's a new and fairly serious (if transient) lag in the afternoon too.

I just posted an invocation to the forum gods in that it's gotten down right ridiculous. I've actually gone and made posts in other forums during the time it's taken one post to load here.

Apprently the same servers are used for other commercial activities and if the usage there increases then things do slow down quite a lot. I've passed these concerns on.

Every evening after 8pm or so, things slow down badly. It's been especially bad this week for some reason. I can sit and wait up to 3 minutes between clicking a link or submitting a post and the new page loading. :?

Is this just me? Every other site I visit is behaving normally. The odd thing about this is that I'm seeing 11 hops between me and the talkmagic server and an average ping response time of less than 40ms. It just seems to stall when I click something, but not all the time.

EDIT: E.g. It took 31 seconds between clicking submit and the next page loading on this thread. That's back to dial-up speeds. Even pinging while waiting shows 35ms response times, so it's looking like the server is sending packets back in response to ping, but taking ages to process page requests and database queries.

I get a little lag but not much, nothing to bother about.
Tonight is the worse day for ages.

Thanks FRK, maybe it's my ISP then. I know they do throttle bandwidth between 7pm and midnight for certain protocols, but I can't see how this affects routing on the web. Oh well, I'll just put up and shut up :D

Nope... it's the TM Server folks... I got booted off twice today and once last night because I was timing out... I've not seen that happen since the days I was on dial up.

I really hope that the powers that be tend to this issue quickly, I fear the natives are getting restless
