I am trying to track down instructional vids/books that show you how to use one of these things well. i have heard Ammar has done a vid - but can;t track it down anywhere. does anyone here know where i could acquire a copy of this, or of anything else worth viewing/reading.

also any tips from board members would be most welcome...

cheers

Doreck

Try Carl Cloutier's video. A French Canadian magician with his own topit design.

Although I've never used or even seen a topit and haven't seen these videos you can obtain the following videos on this link:- http://www.hanklee.net/cgi-bin/quikstore.cgi
This lists Carl Cloutier's video-Expert Topiting made easy at $29.95 and Michael Ammars double video-Topit at $80.00.
Hope that this helps Doreck and anyone else might find this site interesting for its vast range of goodies, some of which are difficult to find elsewhere.

A tip for any potential topit users out there, don't try to make one unless you really know what you're doing, you will probably be far better buying a decent one. I say this because the one I put together tends to drop stuff at critical moments, or I can't get stuff in it etc, it could probably do with being redesigned!
Plus the safety pins really hurt!

Excuse the stupid question, but do one of you guys fancy running me through exactly what a "Topit" actually is.

I have never even heard of it!

it's a bag attached inside your jacket to recieve anything you might want to dump without the audience noticing, very useful when it works, I was using this one on a stage in front of a hundred or so people to get rid of balls after multiplying balls then vanishing them. Mostly it should look as though your hand just touches the edge of the jacket, this is why it is bad if you can't get things into it and your routine depends on timing to misdirect them away from the dump. Also bad if something you've vanished drops out shortly after it disappears!

That is scary!

I get the feeling I should have known what a "Topit" was :-)

So how do you actually pass "stuff" into the Topit? Is there some kind of loading system - cord, bands, grabbing hand etc. Or is it just a big kind of pocket?

I you feel you shouldn't say out here I understand.

no, you just drop it in, the key is to use misdirection and timing, as well as trying to be subtle about it, so that your audience doesn't notice.

You're right of course...

... sorry, I shouldn't have asked out here.

I trust you lot will be tuned into David Blain'es "Vertigo" this Sunday at 9.00pm. I for one have never seen it. Personally I am more interested to see what has changed (if anything) regarding his street magic. I would be very surprised if we see more of the same.

Favourite (simple) trick of his... telling a little girl he is thinking of a number (supposedly having already written it down) then asks the girl to name the number which she does and when you see the card, there it is.
