Richard Sanders Identity

Postby MaxBeat » Jun 23rd, '09, 15:09

My first review is about:

RICHARD SANDERS IDENTITY

The Effect
http://www.sandersfx.com/

Walk up someone you've never met and have a card chosen, marked and shuffed into the deck.
Next, you draw a series of random marks on the back of any indifferent card. Those marks VISIBLY JUMP from card to card, finally VANISHING COMPLETELY.
The deck is slowly spread to reveal the marks on the back of one card...the spectator’s signed selection.

One last incredible kicker ...you offer the card to the spectator as a souvenir. In order to personalize it...you shake the card...and get ready for this...THE MARKS ON THE BACK OF THE CARD VISUALLY REFORM INTO THE SPECTATOR'S VERY OWN NAME!

Yes, the marks VISUALLY REFORM with no cover whatsoever
...into the name of the spectator that you just met!

With NO SWITCH... the card is immediately handed to the spectator to keep. It is completely examinable!

Cost:
$29.95 retail price

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

3, some sleights are used but with some cardmagic experience its quite easy to perform!

But all sleights are gone through very well so even a newbie with some patience can make this happen!

Review

When i saw the trailer for the trick my first reaction was, "Thats impossible"! And i've been into magic for quite some time now! This is exactly the reaction you want from a trick!

But then again, the trailer is cut in a way that makes the effect alot more spectacular then it is.

The trick includes a DVD and a gimmic:

The DVD contains four different ways of performing the trick:
- Extended version, a multi phase version witch also require a little more skill.
- Condensed version, a shorter version suitable for "walk around" magicians.
- Maxed Out version, the best version in my opinion, a real magicianfooler, requires some more preparation.
- Impromptu version, the impromptu way.

The DVD also contains many performances, live as in studio.

There is also a "Extra" part of the DVD with:
- A slight of hand workshop, that goes through every aspect of the handling.
- Bonus moves
- Psychology
- And some more

Worth mentioning is that Richard Sanders is a excellent teacher and the DVD is very well produced.

Some key points:

* No previous knowledge of the spectator is necessary
* Perform for anyone
* Instantly reset
* Completely examinable
* The ultimate give away

Overall:
This could be one of the tricks of this year! Its very clean and its instantly repeatable (best part in my opinion). And no previous info is required!

Richard Sanders is really a entrepreneur amongst magicians and Identity really dont change that. I really recommend this to all card magicians!

And also, the three different versions really helps you to personalize it! You can surly play around with the concept to fit your style!

9/10

GET IT!

Good review. I was very impressed with my first purchase from Richard Sanders - Tagged. The trick played EXACTLY how he showed on the demo and sadly, fewer and fewer creators stick to this strategy. I hate to find some part of the effect *edited* for the sake of making it look more powerful. ( JS's 99 comes to mind..)

I hope this one's as good as Tagged..

Thanks for a good review MaxBeat.

It sounds like a nice effect the way it's described. To cover different performance opportunities like impromptu is a nice touch.

It's also good to know a sleight novice like me could learn it from just the DVD. Too many sell these on the back of established sleights and techniques and you end up buying two or three other books before you can hope to perform it. All effects should be self contained or clear in the sales pitch that they aren't. A real bugbear with me, can you tell? :D

All the best,
Wishmaster

Thanks alot guys! This is my first review so im very glad you liked it!

Well i must say that the demo is a little "edited" to make the trick look stronger but still the reactions are real and i can really strengthen this from own experience!

The price is resonable aswell and im very happy with my purchase!

Cheers!

Very nice review. I watched the video after getting an email from Penguin. It stunned me! I must admit I was suspecious that "What you see is not what you get!" Hardik988, I wrote the review on Sankey's 99 and made that same point--his demo is the most misleading I have ever seen. (It made me stop buying Sankey stuff.)

So, it is nice to know that this video is pretty much "What you see, is what you get."

I am not sure about the various versions. Is there a version that we can learn pretty quickly--and then a stronger version that involves some sleights and practice?

From my experience in gimmicked tricks, usually the Impromptu version will require some sleights and practice ( naturally, to make up for the deficit in equipment ), but I'm not too sure about this one..

Maybe the thread creator could provide some insight ( without exposure ) ??

Isn't Identity based on a similar Richard Sanders effect you can find on one of his Richard Sanders Show volumes ?

a more detailed review would be good.

How close to the demo is it really?
How workable could it really be.

etc

I've posted a more detailed review here:
Richard Sanders Identity Full Review

How close to the demo is it really?

The trick is pretty much exactly as described in the video except the part where the pen marks reform into the spectators name. It is actually achieved by using a simple slight that we you probrably use already and unlike in the video, the card is not held in the same position before and after the shaking of the card. Whilst it should still impress laymen, it's no magician fooler and certainly not as spectacular as in the video.

How workable could it really be.

Its a very workable routine and I'm sure that it will still get great reactions from spectators.

Overall, I just feel a bit conned by the video as I probrably wouldn't have bought it had the video shown the true effect. In saying that though, it's still a good routine though and probrably one that I will use a fair few times.

I am not one to buy many products... When you sell magic for a living it could get expensive, and out of hand. I love Richards creative mind and he never lets me down. Identity is no exception and Richard is always the man to release that mind blowing effect.

I haven't bought this trick but I agree sanders stuff. Is normally very good and gives you plenty of extra info to tailor the effects to your liking. I have a bit ofcriticism here though. From watching the promo And Reading reviews I worked it out. He should be ashamed of himself on this, although a nice effect, I gurantee it would not sell if the promo video wasn't edited the way it is. I would almost say it is mis-selling. All the sleights are ones we use every day and it's not a new idea. It grates me when magicians do this. I've heard similar things about sankeys 99. Having said all that, does anyone want to buy my DVD? Instant reset, a card magically morphs into another and then gets lost in the deck and brought back to the top. £77 each, anyone???

My CUPS being what they are, I'd have normally snapped your hand off, King of Keighley, but sadly we're not allowed to sell DVD's here :wink: :lol:
