Another comedy stalwart passes on.

Star of Hi-de-Hi! Felix Bowness died on 14 September, 2009, aged 87.

He appeared in all 58 episodes of the classic holiday camp sitcom, playing Fred Quilly, an ex-jockey now in charge of the horses at Maplins.

After the show's run from 1980 to 1988, he appeared alongside the same cast in two more comedies by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, as a delivery driver in You Rang, M'Lord? (1990-1993) and a ticket inspector in Oh, Doctor Beeching! (1996-1997).

A veteran comic actor from Harwell in Berkshire, he began his career in the 1960s as an extra in The Benny Hill Show. He went on to credits in a variety of comedy shows, including The Liver Birds, The Goodies, Dad's Army, Porridge, Sykes and Are You Being Served?

He also had a career as a warm-up man, entertaining audiences before recordings of Wogan, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise and even This Is Your Life – in 1985 he was himself honoured with the famous red book.

Felix, was also a member of the magic circle. His son , speaking on local news said his dad was more like Tommy Cooper, than Paul Daniels.

In my limited contact with him, i can say that i found him a lovely man, generous, and always supporting of any local art and theatre projects.

rest in peace Felix.
