*this is a review i did of this device a week or so ago, and forgot to post it here, better late than never*

booklet with diagrams and set up
unit
cushionair switch
speaker
grip
speaker attachment
switch housing
velcro tab
extra disc
aerial/antennae

before you ask, yes you will have to buy some batteries...two AAA batteries, that's all...

I've set it up already in one of my jackets, took me about ten, fifteen minutes - and that's not cos its fiddly, its cos I'm quite a big lad (over six foot and pretty broad) - and I wanted to get the positionings perfect for me...

anyway - what happens? well, the switch is perfectly balanced for activation...it wont look like you're playing bagpipes or fiddling about anywhere...its activated and then out comes the sounds...

oh and I should say, I got two - I really liked the idea of passing the sound from one hand to another...

the actual radio is tiny - you wont find yourself worrying about a bulky pocket or wherever you decide to store it...the straps and set up are good quality..everything is as it should be...

the sound is mono, has an adjustable volume, and everything is black...

its good that the kit is easy to assemble/take out too...

you get a good little plastic case to put it all in, like a big business card case really - and the build quality is, at first inspection excellent...

there's also two printed cards with a radio on it if you wish to use them...

you don't get full on routines, but you do get some ideas...

al cohen is credited in the instructions on the first page, fact fans...

the unit itself is about an inch high, and an inch and a half wide...

there you go - best I can do for you...hard to give a rating without using it in performance, but for what it is, and the quality - 9/10

Would it be possible to transmit to the device? Embarrassingly considering my employ I do not know whether this is possible. Don't those CD Player in the boot things for cars use a short-range FM transmission?

It depends on the frequency. Those car players are probably using 433MHz (UHF), which is cleared for short range transmission (315MHz in the US). FM radio uses something like 80-120MHz (VHF).

Sounds interesting. Are there restrictions on what you have to wear in order to perform this? And does it actually sound like the sound is coming from the object/your hands, and not from the unit, cunningly secreted about your person? Is the volume sufficiently loud to perform this, say, in a crowded café?

Hi Guys....

I'm Shahid Malik, creator, designer and manufacturers of INSTANT RADIO.
Thank you for your interest in INSTANT RADIO!

I'm not generally one for joining in on forums but I thought I'd introduce myself and let you know that I'd be happy to answer any questions - within reason (!), that you might have.
So, please feel free to chat and ask.
I'm not always around to respond immediately - but I'll do my best to pop-in regularly.

To answer a couple of questions already in this thread...
NO you cannot transmit to it. It is an FM Radio - but it is NOT an adapted Radio with a switch attached to it (far from it!).
It is CUSTOM designed & manufactured specifically & purely for its purpose - a magicians trick. The module itself is tiny - just larger than a matchbox.
The volume is adjustable and is very good for its size - you'll be able to perform it in reasonably noisy environments and easily for small groups and table work - no problem! Some have even been quoted as saying that they've had it heard in large rooms and caused great reactions!
You really need to read the website page carefully again and you'll get all the info you need - and it is acurate, NO HYPE, I promise!
There are too many features and innovations to list here - but a couple you should be aware of are...
Auto Scan feature - this unit will auto-scan itself - YES, that's right, you do not have to do a thing - it will scan the instant that you play it and therefore you will more-or-less get a channel everytime you activate it!
(reception permitting, obviously). So you don't have to fiddle about trying to locate a channel all the time. It does it as you 'play it' and its INSTANT!
The activation switch ('Cushionair' switch) is a brand new design and concept - its not a 'toe switch' and its not 'under your belt'.
It sits comfortably and unobtrusively under your armpit in the top of your jacket sleeve, its fully adjustable for all shapes, sizes and sensitivity.
The activation 'works like a dream' (customer quote) it can be worn all day long, you can totally forget that its there and it will never go off accidentally (once it is set up to your requirement).
However, you can and will be ready instantly to perform this at a moments notice without any fiddling or pre- preparation. It can be totally impromptu! Thanks to the clever design, there's no aparent physical movement on your part - you can even activate it just by breathing-in. Hard to believe, I know, but buy one and you'll see.
The newly designed switch alone is worth twice the price of INSTANT RADIO!
The sound does genuinely seem to come from your hands - and this is something I desperately wanted to incorporate into this - for pure magical effect! It does not come from anywhere else on the body.
You can actually hold your object (& hand) up to your audiences ear and they will swear that the sound is coming from just there! Customers have described this as 'awesome' (you'll see reviews and quotes elsewhere on the web).

Incase you're wondering about shirt sleeves and just shirts etc. - the general concensus is that YES it can be used without a jacket - and people have already tried it and are very satisfied.
However, it was designed to go into a jacket and that is how you'll get the best effect of the sound coming from the hands. It can be adapted/adjusted to use without a jacket but you do lessen the effect slightly - just so you are aware.
All I would say is, its worth getting that jacket out of the cupboard just to try it and see the reaction for yourself.

This reply is getting quite long now, and I don't want to start boring you.
But, suffice to say that every customer so far has praised this very highly - its causing a real stir, its designed for professionals by a professional and we know that you'll find hundreds and hundreds of uses for this once you've tried it! Very addictive.
Everything is clearly described and illustrated in the 12 page colour booklet that accompanies the package.

I know you're going to love INSTANT RADIO. We've taken orders for hundreds around the world - and as you'll know, if you're keeping up with the reaction on the web - it's getting incredible reveiws and comments from magicians using it already.
Get yours now, before they all go.... and then go make some noise!
Thanks for your interest.

Cheers!

f.a.o: Damian,
Hi. Yes, your order did go out today (Monday) - and I do hope it reaches you on Tuesday - as it should.
However, please be aware that there are Royal Mail strikes up and down the country at the moment - and this could affect the delivery schedule.
Just thought I should remind you.

Cheers, and hope you like it!

Yup, it just arrived.

It's wonderful.

I just put it in a jacket and tried and am giggling like a schoolgirl about what fun this is going to be.

Operation is very simple and the tip on breathing in the instructions is a goody.

Thanks Shahid for making such a wonderful unit!

Just got mine in from Shahid....Superb.

Ideal for those siuations where you need a conversation stopping ice-breaker. This is one of these props that are limited only by your imagination.

I asked Shahid why he didn't up the price to include batteries but he explained that due to airlines screrening for explsoive devices, packaes with wires AND batteries are lioable to be witheld. So now you know!

Keep up the good work Shahid and good luck with the Instant Radio.

Just ordered mine.

What I was thinking was rather than making the sound come from an unlikely object, you could show someone the sound apparently coming from an expected object, e.g. an iPhone, then vanish the iPhone somehow and show them that the sound is still coming out of your empty hands?

It would be a bit like that phone advert recently where the guy in the mirror apparently made the phone vanish but it kept videoing (done with a false mirror in the end).

We'll see...

is it possible to set it up in a jacket and then remove the jacket partway through the performance? as in, it is 100% attatched to the jacket?

Or is that a no-no?

Love

Chris

Yes, you could - if you're careful.
A little practice and you could do it easily.
And, for that matter, if you really wanted that facility there's no reason why you couldn't adapt it slightly for that to be made possible.

INSTANT RADIO is very flexible & adaptable - that you can be sure of!

Hope that helps.

Shahid Malik.
