The Compiled JINX

Postby Craig Browning » Sat Sep 26, 2009 6:42 pm

The Compiled JINX from Lybrary.com (http://www.lybrary.com/the-jinx-p-29013.html)

Cost $15.00 US.

The Ad Says: Many of the best mentalists consider the Jinx the most important publication. It is a treasure chest of ideas, methods, routines and commentary. A must read not just for mentalists but all magicians.

Here is the most convenient form of the Jinx to date. You will get all 151 issues including all summer and winter extras. Each issue is quickly accessible via a bookmark. You will get reproductions of all the old advertisements for the Jinx, the old three part index prepared by J. G. Thompson Jr., and a completely new 30 page index which has been alphabetized and spans all issues and extras.

We have taken the utmost care for this digitization. The scans were prepared from unbound issues to avoid any kind of page distortion. Each page was then manually cleaned up to produce the best possible look and feel. And the latest OCR technology has been used to make each and every page fully text searchable.

Review: I’m half-torn on sharing this in that the JINX is one of those legendary resources most Mentalist covet these days and don’t want just anyone accessing. BUT, there is material in this compilation that has a more “Magiciany” feel about it that some may find appealing.

Though much of the material in the 907 page collection should be considered intermediate to advanced, some of it will prove quite familiar due to its inclusion in that certain biblical tome penned by Mr. Annemann about Mental Magic. In short, there’s something for everyone.

Given my penchant when it comes to collecting such resources for the sake of reference I must admit a strong bias in recommending this particular collection, especially if you have decided to invest yourself into mentalism at a deeper level. Though dated, much of the material, techniques and routines are easily adapted to our current times.

This is a no risk investment if one ever existed and one of those investments that should sit at your desk beside EMME and Corinda.

$15 is a good price, too. What's the quality of the scans like? I've got the version that the Learned Pig Project put out a few months ago and some of the issues are a bit hard on my ageing eyes.

Very clean ( :? I suffer from the same problem... been onto Paul Brook to learn how to use larger fonts forever  )

I believe Christopher took a huge amount of time cleaning everything up and organizing it into a very user friendly compilation.

Given how tiny the print is, I would hate the see the original he was working to restore. :)

I agree with Craig, the scan quality is very clean. Maybe this is the point where we should tell people not to bother so we can keep it to ourselves? ;)

A huge collection like this is a steal for $15.00. I already got mine last November. Now, I just have to find time to read it ....
