Thanks for the linky Tomo, that was a fascinating interview.
EDIT: You know, one thing he said in the interview made me stop and think...he said
"If all you do is magic, and you take it very, very seriously — as magicians do — you can’t help but lose sight of the bigger picture." I'm not sure what Mr Brown's bigger picture may be, but I have an idea of what
I think it is. I do think, after spending a lot of time here and on one or two other magic forums, that some (few) in the industry take magic and themselves far too seriously. These select few seem to have lost sight of certain things, for example; that it's a form of entertainment and not politics or war. I know it's bread and butter to some/many and that is always serious. Yet, at the same time there's a definite air of elitism, arrogance and one-upmanship that goes with this territory. And that brings me to mind the movie The Prestige, which illustrates my point exactly. All I'm saying is that I sincerely hope I never fall into the trap that the few have, as it doesn't look pretty from where I am currently...the outside, looking in.
I must stress that the vast majority of magicians I have met personally and online have been generous, helpful, self deprecating and humourous. Long may that continue!
Cheers,
Wishmaster
