Yep. Yours just had two on it, Iain, as it was the only post on the page.

At least I can share the endorsement with you now.

Not that I ever opened mine.

Magigadgets are taking over the world it seems.

Hi,
This is Shahid Malik from Magigadgets.
Firstly I'd like to apologise if Tomo (Books by Tomo) received an unwanted email. This was not done intentionally.
We were merely circulating customers and interested parties of the imminent price rise, the reviews and the release date for the next product in our range.
If this has upset anyone - then we apologise sincerely.
We never intentionaly 'spam' anyone.

Recently, in order to reach interested customers we have asked friends and existing customers if they could forward our email to anyone they felt would be interested, or inform us of any friends they felt would be interested in our range of products.
Obviously your email or address must have been passed on or forwarded, and if this has upset you - we sincerely apologise.
We have no wish to upset anyone.

If you do not wish to receive any information from us we will gladly delete your details from our list of friends, or you can simply click the 'unsubscribe' button on the bottom of the email - and you will not be bothered again.
However, I sincerely hope you will 'stay with us'!
Either way, we will respect your wishes, and once again apologise if this upset you.

Regards,
Shahid Malik.

Thanks for the explanation. My personal belief is that companies should not be asking customers for friends emails; regardless of your intentions, this still amounts to spam. You should send emails out only in response to a direct request from the owner of the email address to be added to your mailing list, and not because my mate decided to share my email address with you. Otherwise you risk sending out the wrong impression of your company and intentions, which can be damaging. Just my thoughts.

It's also what the The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations Act 2003 says.

Shahid, I think this is what they call a new media "fail". I've taken my name off the database until I buy something from you, when I'll be happy to receive follow-up emails. Until then, positive reviews from trusted sources are what makes by far the best impact on sales in the magic business.

That's fine.
I fully respect your views and opinion.

As you know, the 'unsubscribe' button is there specifically for you to 'opt out' of receiving any future emails.
We specifically chose to use an email system that features and relies on a genuine 'unsubscribe' policy - so that if anyone chooses to do so, they can do it with one click, and its permanent.
They'll only ever receive it once, and never again.

Once again, however much I respect your views (and you're perfectly entitled), I have to say that 99% of our email list respond very positively and are truly appreciative of the fact that they're receiving something which is actually of interest to them - rather than just the usual rubbish.
They only have to 'unsubscribe' and we'll respect their wishes.
We have no desire to offend or upset anyone.
If we have done - that was certainly not our intention.

Our assumption is that the majority of magicians would gladly welcome any info on the latest magic stuff - and not to take it as being intrusive or be offended by it. If they didn't like it, they could easily 'opt-out'.
That's the way we hope that most magicians would see it - with good intentions.

Please feel free to 'unsubscribe' at any time and we'll fully respect your wishes.

Regards,
Shahid Malik.

Nothing to add to other positive reviews but would like to comment on the excellent customer service. Living in India I often experience difficulties with the postal service and although it was not Shaid's responsibility he managed to sort things out for me.

Why are we getting those horribly intrusive ads on this thread?

Who has paid for them?

This is really invasive and nasty. Especially as it makes it look like an individual is endorsing a product.

(added to adblock software never to be seen again, but still, it's dreadful behaviour).

It's something the advertisers can pay a nominal price for. It's a recent initiative to help the forum generate income. This be a pricey place to keep online. I'm not particularly keen on it, but if it helps us stay afloat then I'm all for it.

This shouldn't be a pricey place to keep online.

There are no bandwidth costs. The script for the forum is free. Hosting should be about 4 quid a month.

Error number one is hosting the site in the UK. Memset isn't very cheap. Host in the states, miles cheaper.

I am up for generating rev from ads, but don't make them so invasive, and certainly don't attribute these ads to member's post. That is really bad.

Anyway, added it to my adblock so I don't see it anymore.

Damian, you have absolutely no idea how TalkMagic is run and the costs involved so please don't post as though you do purely to support your own arguments - it's more than tiresome.

The reason for the ads has been explained, you've made sure you don't see them so can we return to normality please?

I'm still in two minds about this one; perhaps I will pick up a used one at some point. I'm quite interested to see what else Magigadgets will be releasing in the near future.

Before Those Upstairs waved their magic wand around and made posts disappeared, it was brought up that if you're using radio then there could be a gap in speech which might create a slight pause.

So just to repost, I guess you could use those little iPod FM transmitters if that's a big problem for you

Would the slight pause (if any) during performance really be an issue? It would rarely be more than a second or so, would it?

Yeah, probably not. It was just brought up by someone (I forget who) and thought I'd mention it, it could be worth something to someone :)
