Killer Key- Jay Sankey, UK Edition

Postby shanester » Jul 15th, '06, 15:26

The Effect
An ordinary key and a 10p piece (this can be borrowed), are placed in your hand. The spectator chooses either one. One of the items is removed and openly (it is seen) placed in your pocket, but when you open your hand (no funny moves) it is back in your hand and has changed place with the item in your pocket. The key can even be examined beforehand.

Cost
£13.99 follow the link
http://www.magictricks.co.uk/prodshow.a ... sp=showall
(also available from Penguin magic, but Sankey has been very vocal about the fact that he no longer trades with Penguin, so you make your choice)

Difficulty
1
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review
I have no problem with Sankey. Like all magic you have to pick and choose. I would not usually have bought this item on its own but wanted the effect as part of a longer routine with a keyring. As such I am very happy with the effect. It is portable and direct and will stand up to one of those "show me a trick" moments if you want it to.
Solid, easy very visual magic, although quite expensive for what you get (but since you will use it, it's better value than most of the stuff we buy but never use!)

Overall
8/10

No one has anything at all to say about this? This is the only review I could find on this transposition.

If anyone owns it, do you like it, use it often...?

Can everything be examined before and/or after?

you'd have to be quick if you want to buy this from www.magictricks.co.uk because they've decided not to renew their contract with Jay Sankey so once they've gone they've gone!

I know! I bought amazing magic and mentalism and create your own magic because those were the only ones I wanted - was vaguely interested in leaving home as well but they didn't have it

I'd actually probably purchase the product from here, but holding off until I can inquire some insight from the magic community here about the trick... like is it a good buy..etc

It's a very cool effect - and the DVD offers a number of different handling options - one of which is a completely clean version.

It's not going to be the jaw-dropping, reputation making effect in your set - but it's a great bit of visual magic that uses ordinary, everyday objects.

Killer key is a great effect and sankey is a good teacher.

And yes, everything can be examinable, before and after.
I use it often and whenever going out i always carrie it. (Along with jay Sankey's Bigger Finnish Jumbo card).

I am also a frequent shopper at MT UK and when i found out that they were having a sankey clearout I quikely ordered rev card magic. it was in my basket, but when I looked back there was none left, and then when I returned to my basket, it had disapeared.

I agree with this post. Killer Key would make a decent transition piece but it's not an opener or a finisher.

As for the difficulty, the OP rated:

"Difficulty
1
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)"

The actual effect of when the magic happens is a 1, I agree. But if you want to truly end clean, you're going to have to use a couple of maneuvers. If the goal is to end clean then I would bump this up to a 3. It'll be cake for anyone used to handling coins.

For the American viewers- I have the Jefferson nickel version of this and the gimmick is dead on accurate.
