Good quality swami gimmick

Postby Eshly » Dec 21st, '09, 14:26

I'm looking for a swami gimmick, but particularly one that:

A. Is not a TT (its easier to spot than other types)
B. Is easy to get on and get off.

I am looking for a "leading maker of swami gimmicks", if there exists such a thing; and price is never really an issue, I just want something that's good quality :)

Tom, A tip writer, is no easier to spot than any other kind of writer.
All writers are hidden behind the card as you write.

and even a lincoln, will be spotted if its not used correctly.

 Learn to use a Thum Tip the right way and you'll have no problem with a swami.

Vernon used to love watching those that could get away using a bright colored or chrome platted Thum Tip and fool other magicians with them... and several such pros exist.

I'm not saying TTs don't work, I'm saying I think its NOT the most stealthy :p

And I still need the website adress, or name of a good maker. :s

Why is it not the most stealthy though? The above posts are indicating to you that the way in which a SG is applied is more important than the gimmick itself.

What about a TT do you find unstealthy? What kind of charateristics would you like from an alternative? Is it something that can be remedied by technique instead of looking for a specific SG? The main types are explained and documented in the first chapter of 13 Steps, is there a specific SG from these that is a baseline for what you are looking for?

I want to hand out the swammied bit of paper with my right hand, and if people deliberately look at my hand and see it "empty" because there is no TT, it will help reinforce the idea that my entire hand is empty.

Where is a good place to purchase and browse SG? Anyone know?

Can you not hand out the paper with your left hand?

The thing sits on the nail, or on the pad of the thumb.
SO Its either on the other side of the thumb, or, it's behind the other fingers.

IT WONT BE SEEN.

Actually, it will be seen, if you wory about it, or if you look at it.

There is no reason for teh spectator to look at your hand. After all.. your just handing them a piece of paper.

And remember. If you remove it before you give them the paper, you HAVE to change hands first, and Ditch the gimmick, which is Far more dodgy . :)

I like the Sam Dalal SG. I got mine through Richard Osterlind's website http://osterlindstore.com/catalog/produ ... ucts_id/55

I've heard many good things about Lincoln's boons.

Eshly, I hope this doesn't sound patronising because it's not meant to be. Some of the guys who have responded in this thread have many years of performing experience between them. You would do well to listen to their advice; it's not about the gimmick but how you use it. We all have our preferences when it comes to the type of device we like to use, but do not make the mistake of thinking that a TT type is inferior. It isn't. Your inexperience in this area is evident from your initial post, so please don't rush into anything and certainly do not disregard a TT type just because it seems obvious.

When I first discovered the method behind Dean Dill's Blizzard effect, I was gobsmacked that anyone would fall for it. I simply did not believe it would work; I was convinced I had wasted my money and Blizzard was consigned to the attic for a long time. Years later, I eventually tried it out and do you know what? It worked. Like a dream. No one was more surprised than me. And it continues to work. I am no expert (just a hobbyist) but it's important not to fall into the trap of assuming something won't work just because it seems obvious to you. I'm not saying you should treat your audience like idiots because people are not stupid. But you would do well to take onboard advice from professionals like Dale, Craig, etc.
