I have managed to find envelopes that work. You can get them in W H smiths. (not sure about other countries). The little pay envelopes. They dont look as smart as the ones that are supplied but you can't see thru them for sure and they only cost a few quid for 50 of them.
Hope this helps.

Do they fit exactly into these envelopes as the method is hard enough without extra space if you know what I mean.. Can you cut the cards without spoiling them also?

I have trimmed my own cards to fit some smaller envelopes with no problems with their working.

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!

Yes they fit in real snug. You may have to trim about 2mm off the end ,but this won't change a thing. To me they just dont look as smart as the ones that are supplied. Maybe that's just me. I have used the W H Smith ones from the outset and they work for me. Also when they get torn or worn you have plenty at hand.

You don't fancy telling me the exact dimensions of the envelopes do you? Save me looking for a ruler in this clutter

That's a long old search for a ruler  . 67mm x 110mm. But there is variance, as I bought some a while back and they were slightly a different size, but only by a mm or two.

Great discussion on the props but what about the effect?!

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » Feb 2nd, '09, 17:05

Hi Guys,

This has turned into what I imagine is quite a helpful discussion for those that have this effect - but I'm still curious about the effect itself!

Does it work well, is the method good (is it similar to Banachek's russian roulette that I've heard him do via radio / phone interviews? Where he uses 6 cards, one is a bullet or a single red card in 5 black. He devines where the 'bullet' card is?) - sorry for being vague on that but I don't know what that is called or if it is a marketed effect of his. I heard it on a gomagicgo podcast once.

I'll probably pick Tom's effect up at Blackpool, but I just wondered how it was working out 'in the real world'

Cheers,

Haven't had a chance to perform this yet, but I think that instead of the concept of putting money down for the Russian Roulette theme, this would work well in a house party environment in which, like the drinking game Arrogance, with each Click you reveal, a dirty pint with an evil concoction of spirits, beer and miscellaneous could be filled....

Of course the pressure mounts up as at point you explain that you are liable to drink the horrendous mixture. This would therefore combine elements of a drinking game as well as a magical effect. Also, I'm sure you could patter on about the infamous scene in The Deer Hunter where Christopher Walken gambles with his life, or even mention (in passing) Derren Brown's media stunt.

Also, I used the envelopes provided but as I have a penchant for these envelopes as many of Gordon Bean's packet effects came with them, I cut out equal sized pieces of normal paper and stuck 2 of them to the insides. Problem solved: they are opaque and look great. Plus I made the writing really bold and it does not show through the envelope.

I like this effect already. Plus, Mark Spelman's cockney banter is quite amusing.
