Strike Second Deal?

Postby GoldFish » Feb 28th, '05, 20:08

I'm not sure of the name of this second deal as I've tried to reverse engineer it from Andru Luvisi's fantasticly good clip on Cogitations. Could anybody help me with that? It's a work definately in progress so any comments on my handling of it aswell would really be helpful.

Cheers,

Will

well for a start if i saw anyone dealing like that id know something was up.
the clip your referring to on cogitations is indeed a strike second deal but its nothing like what your doing, id recommend you read up on second deals, theres a good section in "phantoms of the card table" and im pretty sure that it can be found in most gambling books.. a push off second deal can be found in expert at the card table which in my opinion is the harder method. will pm you

Cheers, I'll look up "Phantoms of the Card Table" and probably end up putting it on my wish list.

I think you need to push the top card off a bit more and you'll then give the whole thing a sense of movement. :)

As already suggested, and as I have now discovered, this is not a second deal. However, I have been reliably informed that this move, performed as originally intended, is known as Elliot's Card Change and with a little research I came upon it's origin. Here's how it should look.

Very smooth - I like eponyms (my job involves them!) but I'll have to find a way to catalogue the effects that I come across. Can the clip be downloaded and, if so, how would I go about it?

Thank you

May I ask what you plan to do with the clips? And I apologize for my poor word power but what's an eponym? For that clip the address is

Hi

I save the clips to my hard drive then plan to link to them via Access or Excel. By entering a key word into the database ("change", "Elliott", "Erdnase", "DL"" etc.), the relevant video files will be listed and may be replayed. I assure you that I won't be using them for any illicit use, nor passing them off as my own work!

My understanding of the word "eponym" is to attach someone's name to an invention, process etc. Obviously, magic is full of them - otherwise it would be "the DL that requires you to *** and ******* then ****** before *****", rather than stating "Smith's DL"! Of course, I need to be entirely accurate in describing the effect and attributing it to the correct eponym. I've seen several descriptions on teaching DVDs that say that a particular effect is actually the X effect as modified first by Y and then by Z! Complicated this magic lark, isn't it  ?

A database of clips sounds like a fantastic idea, but in practise I fear it would be impractical and probably impossible. Once people start using this File Sharing forum more and more it will become an online database of moves, effects and ideas. Other forums have used the same File Sharing premise (most probably the inspiration behind our very own) and now have an extensive range of clips dating back years in some case. The only draw back to an online database, particularly a forum based one, is that storage space is not unlimited and as such video clips cannot be stored indefinately as they need to be deleted in order to make space for new ones.

So if you have the time and storage to amass such an archive all I can do is wish you good luck, it sounds like a fun project that will keep you busy for a long while :D

You hit the nail on the head - an online database can't store clips indefinitely because of storage problems but I can! I download the clips for *my* benefit as reference material and can choose what I retain. As I said, I have no intention of using them for illicit reasons or passing them off as my own work.

i no you've all started talkign about databases and stuff but i have an idea for the first video, works well and u've probally allready thought of this but if you turned over the top card but left the others face up it would make it look like you are changing them and flipping them also giving the illuison of the whole deck being face down,

That's a great idea, thanks. I'll have a play and perhaps post yet another video soon.
