Hello There

Postby mrstarwars » Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:09 pm

Hi everyone, just a little about myself.

I am 28 years old and from the north east of england. I have just started getting into magic over the past month or so, even tho I have been a fan of it since I was a child.
I am currently trying to learn close up street magic. I am off work on the sick for several weeks so plenty of time to get some practise in.
I have been ordering a few tricks from a website called http://www.magicshop.co.uk

I am currently trying to find a decent magic podcast, is there any out there?

Cheers

Phil

    welcome onboard Mrstarwars.
There used to be a free magic podcast - not sure if it's still running - try searching for it through i-tunes.

If your just starting out with learning you can't go wrong with books and DVD's.

Use the forum search facility to help you out. Read through some of the reviews for fellow magicians thoughts on new/recent releases and even some of the old classics!

I hope you get well soon but in the mean time have fun!

Thanks for the info mate. I have been learning the odd trick with some youtube tutorials.
I have found that the dvds are better than the books.

whilst I am a huge fan of youtube (I've even posted a couple of vids myself) I stear well clear for learning tricks on the tube. Its personal preferance but I often feel it's the little "bits of business" you only get from the books/dvd from fellow magicians that make huge differences.

Look at the ads below for some excellent dealers (magic box is in the N.East) give 'em a call or call in. A feast of all manner of learning material.

You may also want to join a local club? like minded folk who are as keen to teach as they are to learn.

No 2 journeys into magic are the same but a good healthy knowledge of the "basics" will set you off to a great start:
Royal road to card magic - Bobo (for coins) and don't knock the readily available books like Mark Wilsons complete course. All the above are books but they are a good source of material.

What to learn is for you to decide but remember - the seemingly simple effects you see performed are usually after a fair bit of work - hey, if it was that easy to do we'd all be doing it! Oh wait a minute....

Thanks again for the advise, I know where the magic box is but my leg is in plaster for up to 5 weeks so having to order everything online.

Yes even the simple "DL" I found hard at first but after a day or so I was getting good at it.

After showing tricks to family and friends its intresting watching their faces with each trick.

I am trying to come up with good lines when they want to inspect the cards after the trick is done. When the cards are a "gimmick". Not sure if thats the correct word?

How do you guys get out of the "lets see them cards"??
