Theme & Logo

Postby phillipnorthfield » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:26 pm

No offence to whoever designed the site, and I have no idea how long it has been up for, but surely there must be someone out there who has knowledge of themes and graphic design that could spruce this place up a bit. I'm not complaining but i think that it looks a little bland. I'm studying for a degree in Computer Science and would be happy to help if people thought this would be a good idea, and I'm sure that there are others out there who feel the same way.

A quick idea.

EDIT - Just saw that this logo would not work at all :)

Oo, it's March isn't it?

If we start a sentence with "no offence but..." does that make it OK?
Yeah? well in that case I don't mean to be a racist homophobe but.....

This theme is perfect.

It's called the "getting away with browsing the forum at work without drawing too much attention to itself" theme.

What's "bland" to some is "easy on the eyes" to others. The current theme is clear and easy to read, even for long stretches, and that's its main purpose.

My main gripe with the Magic Cafe is that it hurts my eyes. I don't have any other gripes, because I'm not a member. And that's because I can't stand to look at it.

There is nothing wrong with you suggesting something, however...

I like the logo - and as for the theme - it is easy on the eyes, and allows us to concentrate on the content, which is afterall what we are here for.

My belief is that if Talk Magic changes their theme to something more templated you will see a decrease in people posting.

People get too bogged down with things looking different with templates etc. Isn’t simple and basic the best way? A couple of years ago it was the range to have everything in black, forums, websites etc. Only ellusionist and one other i can think of really pulled it off. No i wasn’t affiliated with the other.

Look at Amazon, you cant say that their isn’t a reason why their site is awful and plain. The simple answer is usability. They concentrate on the customer getting the experience and functionality rather than the site looking good.

Same with this forum. It is readable, usable and works.

Then again i might have it completely wrong

You have it dead right. Amazon do a lot of testing and are always changing things, but one thing that stays the same is the design, and it must work for them because it hasn't changed yet :)

Compared with Facebook who are always changing the design and the number of "I hate the new facebook!!" status updates that shortly follow
