Richard Kaufman On the pass

Postby spudgun » Jul 8th, '07, 00:41

Im not sure if this has been reviewed i could'nt find it but if it has then sorry..............However!!!

Richard Kaufmans on the pass DVD Basically teaches the pass from the classic pass through to more complicated stuff. As for the difficulty level....It is the pass, so it's gonna take a bit of time (i like stuff like that tho)

Techniques taught

1)The classic pass
2)The rifle pass
3)The jiggle pass
4)Half a jiggle pass
5)Classic pass false cut
6)The cover pass
7)Herrmann pass
8)Merlin's Herrmann turnover pass
9)Jacob Daleys Improved Herrmann pass
10)The DL shift
11)Steve Druan's midnight shift (this you will love bye the way)
12)The half pass

Routines taught

1)false cut ace cutting
2)A bidding vanish
3)Every, every where
4)New cavorting aces
5)Passing along the vanishing aces

I bassically was in tam sheperds and wanted to get some advice on the pass, and was advised by roy walton that this was a good buy....its £30 quid but you obviously get alot for yer mullah. The teaching is great and the angles shown are good too (the usual 70's bongo flick production but hey). If you want to learn the pass id say this was a great shout......9 out of 10) just cause theres always room for improvement lol :D

ps........i dont usually post reviews cause they have already usualy been done.....but id like when i contribute for it to be worthwhile and or witty so feel free to crrritique.....and any questions dont hesitate. :D :D

I just bought this DVD too and my pass has massively improved. Hours sat in front of my TV with a deck of cards also helped.

I would say this is just about the best resource for covering the pass.

My only criticism is that it's quite old and there are some new methods and subtelties that aren't included. However, the techniques that are taught are all pretty worthwhile and the teaching is easily adequate.

I've got On the Pass and I think it's great. It's just that I'm simply not nimble enough to get my pass good enough to use in public. Kaufman's teaching methods are great, everything's clear as crystal, but my hands simply aren't up to the job. It's one of those horrible realisations you have at 40 that you're finally getting old and new physical skills are becoming harder to accomplish

Well if you're gonna learn one of them, i'd personally recommend the "Half a jiggle pass", not only because it sounds a bit rude, but because it's a very deceptive, near invisible pass.

Peter Cassford is the name you're looking for. Back to the thread, however, this DVD is very well done. The close-up camera angles on the hands while performing the effect really display the level of mastery one can get with this move and show you how putting all of the practice, knowledge and subtleties together can make virtually any pass work in real situations.

I've read other reviews that said that complete beginners can't learn the pass from this DVD, that it's a DVD that teaches you multiple variations on the move. I agree with the latter part of that statement, but I think beginners should be OK with this. In my opinion, the pass doesn't need hours of detailed explanation; actually, I'm bored just thinking about more than a 10-minute explanation on the actual mechanics of the move.

The rest is really up to practice and trying to incorporate the little things that make the move easier. I would give the DVD the same rating: 9/10. I 1/2 point away because spudgun is right: nothing is perfect 8) . I take the other 1/2 point away because the shooting of the video is dated, and looking at the 80's hairstyle and that funky music was almost too much

This is a DVD I have considered purchasing for a while. I can do the pass, but it's not as invisible as I'd like it to be, I have never been caught doing it (thanks to misdirection), but I'd love to be able to do the pass under the specs nose and get away with it.
Thanks for the review, another thing that's gone up my never ending list of wants.

Thanks for this, I've been considering getting Randy Wakeman's DVD "The Pass" - how would these two compare?

Tomo - you say -

" Kaufman's teaching methods are great, everything's clear as crystal, but my hands simply aren't up to the job. It's one of those horrible realisations you have at 40 that you're finally getting old and new physical skills are becoming harder to accomplish".

I am your age and after 2 weeks of trial and error (and carrying a deck with me everywhere) I have gotten the pass down pat. I'm not sure it's "burnable" yet (as they say in America). I will rely on misdirection until then.

Don't write yourself off just yet!
