You say what you like old bean! I know exactly what you're saying though.
It's a joy when you watch the performance part of a DVD and you see some effects which blow you away as if you were a layman and have no idea how they are done. These are the ones you seek to learn first.

It's disheartening to pay for a magic dvd, watch the performance and you know exactly what's being done. Of course the more you learn there are going to be many DVD's like this, but it's the couple on each DVD which truly astound you that bump up your rating of it.

Personally I think this is a cracking DVD with some great effects.

First time I watched it through it genuinely left me stumped on more than one occassion. Okay, there are a few old effects in there but what he does is illustrate how an old effect can be transformed by applying a bit of your own imagination to the presention....an area that seems to be much over-looked.

He keep s things simple and therefore I believe honest and believable.

I had laugh when when he presented 'childsplay'. I was sure it was a verbal force of the colour of the doh in the pot....yet he was forcing it on himself (he doesn't tend to use a live spectator in his demonstrations). Felt a bit like a schizo moment. Great effect all the same...and a good excuse to buy some playdoh/ plastacine.

I'd give Hemispheres 8/10...well worth the purchase and another pat on the back for Jay. He is a genius.

Hemispheres DVD

Farlsborough, your review of Hemispheres was thoughtful and appreciated. I did read the more recent review in 2009 (which motivated me to actually watch some of the DVD -- I have several of Sankey's I have not yet watched. They tend to be exhaustive/long.) You provided some useful perspective on this DVD. As with most of Sankey's material, I found there to be some worthwhile nuggets including Photo Finish, Reception and Choice Effect. Thanks for your efforts expended in sharing your reactions.
