Hi everyone, my name is Wittus Witt, publisher and editor of "International Magic Yellow Pages" and "magischeWelt" (www.magischewelt.de) which is beeing published every other month. We print 2.700 copies of each issue. It is Germany's largest independent magic magazine, founded in 1952 by W. Geissler-Werry. After his death in 2000 I took it over.
Now then, the next issue will feature Patrick Page.
I have some wonderful articles about him by: Wayne Dobson, John Fisher, Charles Reynolds, and Ricky Jay. I have also got some material from Fergus Roy.

As you may know, Patrick Page is a fine gentleman and rather shy concerning his life. However, I was able to do an interview with him and received some fascination information. Unfortunately I have very few photos.

I would appreciate if anybody could provide me with some early photos when he was at Davenports. Patrick Page was also guest of a David Nixon show in the early 1950s. Has anybody got a file of guest appearances from these shows? I would like to know the year in which he appeared.

Any help, information is welcome. You may send a pp or mail direct to: abc@magischewelt.de

Thanks a lot for your attention.

Hi Wittus, I totally agree that Pat is indeed a fine gentleman and an outstanding magician, I know this not just because of his reputation but also because I have met him on a few occasions.

I would love to be able to help you but unfortunately I can't, have you tried the Magic Circle as I am sure they would be able to help you in some way!! :)

I'm sure that I have something of Pat's somewhere :?

I've just done a quick search of my main bookshelf and found 2 things I didn't realise I had, a copy of Terry Seabrooke's lecture notes and a copy of mine

I do know that somewhere I have a copy of Terry doing his cig in jacket which I recorded from the Magic Comedy Strip many years ago  Remember Hobson doing the Hoping Half's ?? And the kid in the audience turning down going in his pocket !! A gem

I think that I also have a vid of Pat doing the topit amongst other things. One day I'm going to have to get my old vids onto DVD !!

And in a moment your coat will become a smoking jacket, and then it will become a blazer 8) Perfect performing 8)

OK, enough of an old man's ramblings :?

And Kat, I've finally done that routine for you while I was watching the snooker tonight

Hi, and thanks a lot. I am glad to notice from your postings that it WAS a good idea to publish a sort of tribute to Pat Page. I do have most of his writings (did you know that some of his books have been translated into several languages? I got a nice French version of his Big Book of Magic). I also have most of his videos, Son of Trik-A-Tape. What a wonderful visual magazine!

But I still would need some photos, thus any help in this direction is welcome.

Thanks for your concerns

Now that is something I didn't know and is very interesting, Roy Walton told me that his second book the complete walton 2 was a collection of tricks and routine some only published in foreign magazines which at the time surprised me but knowing the reputation of both of these great magicians, I should have guessed how popular both Roy and Pat are, and maybe I shouldn't have been so surprised after all! :)

perhaps you like to know this too:

in 1974 Pat wrote four little booklets:
Tricks with Cards
Tricks with Handkerchiefs
Tricks with Coins
Tricks with Paper

They were republished in 1975 in one volume "Bell's Book of Tricks" by Bell Publishing, New York. A nice hardbound with dust jacket.

In 1977 the four booklets were published in a paper back in Canada under the title "Magic Tricks made Easy".

However, I am still looking for some photos from the 1960s with Patrick Page.....

Wittus,

I've been told the best person to contact is Fergus Roy of Davenports.

Good luck!

Pat Page's books

Postby Allen Tipton » May 22nd, '05, 19:08

:D There is also a small booklet by Pat Page called How To Be A Conjuror. It was exclusive to Woolworths and in a series called Project Books, published by Peter Haddock Ltd., Bridlington, England. Patrick's was No. 108 There were over 150 Project Books published. The illustrations were by Brian Wilkins. Published date 1973.
I may add that at one IBM convention, some years back there was a young professional magician who struggled with a stage full of apparatus including 2 or 3 Crystal Caskets and a tall greenhouse shape box. Then that night PP walked onto the same stage with just a pack of cards and got a standing ovation. Brilliant routining, charasmatic personality, sheer entertainment and wonderful magic. Nuff said.

In light of the tragic news, i thought it worth refreshing this thread, so people can post their memories of Pat.

Patrick also contributed the card trick, "Beyond the Veil" in Step 10 of Corinda and a mention was made of his Q.5 Index as well.

Pat's misers dream, is the one version of the effect that i intend to do. I was even going to have a load of palming coins made up to do it.

Pat Page was resposible for some wonderfull brasswork.
He , with Bobby Bernard, invented, and constructed the bernard coin box, Later ripped of as the beyond okito box.

( This info came from both Bobby, and Pat, and others... neither of whom have ever been credited )

Pat page, was probably the greatest authority on Misdirection we have had. His Ribbon throw has become a clasic , used globaly by dove workers, and manip acts.
His deck to pocket, is briliant, and he was probably responsible for making the toppit, the tool it is today.

Pat Page

Postby Allen Tipton » Feb 12th, '10, 11:25

I received this very sad news this morning . from Alan Watson in New Zealand.
My wife always referred to Pat as 'that wonderful little Scotsman in Davenports'.
He was charming with her every time we went to Great Russell Street.
He knew how to handle magicians' wives

Pat lectured to the Nottingham Guild on 2 occasions; always to a packed clubroom, which echoed to, much laughter, gasps and unstinted admiration for the man, the gentleman, whom I have regarded as the 'Greatest Teacher of Magic in the UK'.

His knowledge & invention of Magic & Methods was --awesome.
His approach & his advice was always so honest, straightforward and uncluttered.
You knew you were in the presence of a Great Master but one who was always within your reach.
On stage audiences, whether they were magicians or lay folk loved him.
His Magic was truthful, very funny, performed with concealed skill and chockful of sheer entertainment.
Did anyone see the play he wrote when it was performed, I think in London. I'll have to search out the review in Abra.
His last appearance on a Guild Show, about 2 years ago, took all the magicians in the audience by surprise. He performed a silent act and showed that the PP charm, skill & charisma, was solidly there, even though the cheeky chatter wasn't.

I salute and bow to one our the UK's Greatest,
We all will miss him.But he will be 'up there' with his Miser's Dream, top changes & Card on The Forehead, topping the Bill with the other Legends.
Thank you Pat for --everything.
