Freddie Valentine's Tarot Reader's Black Book

Postby themagicwand » Mon Jun 21, 2010 8:15 am

The Effect

This ebook is aimed at the magician/mystery entertainer who wishes to give tarot readings. The methods used, rather than being based on tedious memory work, utilise psychological tools and cold/hot reading techniques.

Cost

$20, so around £12

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Difficult to say. When it comes to this kind of work (cold reading etc) some people take to it like a fish to water while others find they have to work a bit harder.

Review

Some of the older members here will remember Lord Freddie - a colourful character who wasn't afraid to speak his mind! He has now released this ebook via Lybrary, and being interested in all things relating to readings, I thought I ought to take a look.

This ebook is aimed at magicians and mystert entertainers who want to get into the area of "readings" but lack confidence. Perhaps they have read books before on cold reading but haven't been convinced, or they have tried to read a "shut eye" book on the tarot and lost heart. This book will give you all the ideas and advice you will need to take that first step, to go out and give satisfying reading to friends, families and clients.

This book also gives good solid advice on where and how to find work as a reader, what to expect and how to present yourself.

I'm a big fan of Freddie, and I'm delighted that he's taken the plunge and entered the world of publication!

Overall
8/10 - ideal for the beginner and intermediate reader. Great stuff.

Ah Paul, you beat me to it. :)

I am also pleased to add my thoughts on this excelent book.

I found this book to be the most excelent read, with sone good, clear, practical advice on the subject of Taro readings.. Indeed readings in general.
Advice that has come directly from the front line, with hints and tips that come from the real world, performing for real people.

In the work, Freddie gives the reader his basic interpretations of teh cards, and then teaches how to read the spectators reactions, in order to personalize each reading to that particular Punter.

Ive looked at many Tarot systems in the past, and so far this one probably suits me best, because its both simple, and effective.

Also, once you get the book, Freddie has created a private forum, in which you can share your own experiences with others.
Highly reccomended... And an entertaining read to boot!

Dale

Do you know what I'd like? I'd like the list of things I want to buy to get shorter not longer.

Is this book any good if you want to do cartomancy rather than tarot readings?
Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

This work is strictly speeking just on Tarot, however its worth looking at the other elements of it, because you can adapt odd bits for Cartomancy.

The best book i vae come across for cartomancy.. well it's not one that you would think of straight away.
Its a paperback book called

Fortune-telling Fun , written by Gyles Brandreth of all people. It covers loads of different forms of Divination, the teal leaves, and Cartomancy being particually well written.
and there is a nice section on dice too.

I picked it up a few weeks ago at a local Carnival.. 3 paper back books, for a pound.
The other books were a readers digest book on ghost hunting, and Martin Gardners Mathematics, Magic and Mystery , which seems to be worth 15 pounds. :)

Just wanted to add that I enjoyed this very much. It will probably be most useful to beginners at tarot rather than the more experienced reader. It has a really good attitude behind it of get out and have a go.

I have been studying the subject of Tarot for quite a few years now and have always had problems interpreting the cards due to the many keywords attributed to each card. So after reading through many Tarot books and doing tons of different spreads i decided to take the plunge and get Freddie’s ebook.
I was delighted to find some great ideas and thinking inside of this book. First he talks about how to create a great environment for your reading and how to fuse certain magic effects to convince the sitter that you do have some power!
He also goes into what to look for when buying a pack of tarot cards and he has some good reasons for what he says. I won’t give much away as you really should read this book.
Freddie then talk about using coldreading and hotreading techniques to enhance the reading. He has some really great ideas on these to be honest.
He also talks about how to deal with different types of people and how to get work doing readings.
This is a very easy read, and Freddie is a worker of the tarot and has done many sittings and he knows what he is talking about.
I went out and tried out some of the techniques he discusses to some great response. I say, go and get this book and give it a try. Out of 5 i would rate it a 4, it is a very good read with some great logical thinking behind it. Well done Freddie!
