The Effect
The blurb from the box:
After almost 15 years of performance, for the first time on DVD, John Shryock releases his signature routine. A true reputation maker. Nothing is held back. All of the tips and tricks from thousands of performances are explained in full detail.
A borrowed RING ends up in a WALNUT!
The WALNUT is in an EGG!
The EGG is in a LEMON!
"I used some of John Shryock's ideas in the Ring In Walnut routine that I presented on the David Letterman show. His loading procedure is really quite brilliant, and served as the "missing link" for a routine I'd been working on for several years."
- STEVE COHEN, The Millionaires' Magician
"If you take the time to learn and perform this effect properly, you will have one of the strongest effects in the art of magic!"
- JEFF McBRIDE, creator of McBride's Magic & Mystery School
"I've seen John perform Ring In Walnut at Warren & Annabelle's numerous times and it kills every time! When the ring is produced the audience gasps."
- WARREN GIBSON, owner of Warren & Annabelle's, Maui, Hawaii

Review
So, I watch the demo and think that I recognise the method that's used. Pleased with myself I continue watching only to see my thought of method shattered. No swaping out, no placing the ring at the last moment etc. When the routine reaches the climax I sit up in the chair and am very pleasantly surprised at what I see - and don't see.
Moving onto the explanation I realise that my earlier thought of method was actually on the mark but the handling and method looks so so smooth and clean, I realise that I've been tricked into dismissing my thoughts.
The items needed to put this routine together are probably in most experienced magician's tool box and you need to go out and buy a lemon, egg and some walnuts. Not much surprise there when you've already read the box.
However, the method of combining these items into the effect is very well taught, surprisingly easy to do and is so convincing that you'll fool any lay audience and some magicians to boot.
The whole routine is scripted for you and is taught on the DVD as a comedy routine but with some thought you have a variety of ways to use this. I intend to perform this from a chop cup routine and unlile some other similar routines there is no swap of the lemon!
There is some very clever yet simple misdirection and subtleties at play in this routine and all that you need to perform this is confidence. The routine delivers what it claims to do on the box and for once with this type of routine it's actually a real-world worker.
Overall
In my opinion this is a great routine and I hope that nobody else buys it. One of the most practical item in a piece of fruit routines you'll find.
