Davd Stone: The Real Secrets Of Magic Vol 1

Postby donkeylord » Dec 20th, '07, 09:44

Noticed that there was only a review for the second volume so I decided to lose my review cherry and go for it.

The Effect
Volume One of David Stones 2 Volume dvd's teaching table hopping magic

Cost
It's success has made it widely available but ellusionist has the cheapest ones (shocking I know) at http://www.ellusionist.com/product/dvd+ ... als&page=1

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
Between a 2-4 (the two is for only one or two tricks however most range around a 3)

Review
This DVD is packed with more magic then you can use (literally, if you are table hopping like David you souldd only use a few of these effects per table because if you used them all you would be at a table for the entire meal)

Like a real teacher David gives a tip or explains a theory and then backs it up with an example. In this way he teaches the viewers a theory behind table hopping or magic in general and then backs it up with an example. This means that for each trick that you learn you also learn a little more about magic and table hopping (which is perfect for a novice like myself)

The actual tricks are very good. None are more then a few minutes and all the tricks provide a great reaction. Like all magic you should put your own personal touches into these effects to make them make more sense in your routines.

The explanation section is done without speaking with David showing all the moves (with some text when needed). At first I was scared that this would be difficult to learn from without speaking *cough* the system *cough* but the variety of angles and David's slower repeats helps to make all these tricks learnable.

Overall 10/10
The quallity and quantity of this DVD had me wanting more (even if my hands were full with all this new material). Luckily I bought volume two with volume one and got my wish.

As I stated earlier in the year, this was for me one of this year's highlights in magic. And Volume 2 is equally as groin-stirring.

Nice review, and all true (objectively!)

Volume two is just as good although it is a bit shorter. It has the same amount of tricks and tips plus some fun bonus material like the creation of David's FISM act.

Volume 2 is a bit more advanced, particularly the coin stuff. Plus it has a greater range of effects with more items which is always nice.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

Been watching this today and - yes - it's superb!
No doubt in the New Year I'll be nabbing myself a copy of volume 2.
It's enjoyable to watch as an entertaining DVD too as the production values are superb and it's well presented.

I think that many of the effects on here will take a fair amount of practice to get the timing right and there are some angle issues but the material here is priceless.

Top marks Mr Stone!

I have instructed my cousin to get this for me (2 volumes). I can't wait! It will be a month before he can hand this to me. I know it's worth the wait!

David Stone is an excellent performer and his DVDs are top notch he gives tips and advice on how to get applause from the audience and even on how to sell your-self after each show, whilst teaching a nice range of magic tricks perfect for the work I do. So for me it is the perfect mix.
