There's a smashing shop in Stourbridge in the West Midlands. Can't think what it's called at the moment

The owner isn't a yob, and also has breasts. Not because he's a woman mind.

He just loves his ale too much :D

The bloke looked like a yob out of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, was patronising and offensive and treated me like an idiot for daring the have the audacity to have breasts and be into magic.

The stock was not 'good' as people have said. It was the same old stuff everyone has, but more expensive.

My advice is unless you are a mockney gangster type not to bother.

YMMV

Wow, that is very judgemental remark Sarah. I have been into this magic shop and have found the owner a very pleasant chap.

I did mention to him about not being open a few times before, he said that when the shop first opened he was the only one working there so when he had to pick up stock the shop would have to be closed.

I hope this shop does really well, It adds the the charm of kemp town :)

I am, and always will be, a keen supporter of bricks and mortar shops and I too wish, hope and pray that it does do very very well.

It's just that I had a few hundred quid burning a hole in my pocket and a C.U.P.S. fever.
A note in the door window saying closed until... or back in... would have helped.
To the elusive shop keep, I sincerely wish you all the best in business.

Yes it is. I went in. I was patronised and treated like an idiot and the JUDGEMENT I made was never, ever to go back there again.

That is what judgemental means:

Of, relating to, or dependent on judgment[/quote]

I am so pleased. When I went in, the guy I spoke to had not heard of Vernon. As I said, YMMV.

Brighton Magic shop - the website

Postby Fardle » Mon Jul 18, 2011 1:24 pm

I hope the shop is good and does well and that Sarah's experience was an aberration - however contacting the shop is hard. There is only a mobile number (and that hard to read) and calls are not returned. There is no email address or landline.

Looking for coins under professional magic I gave up - lots of little white squares and nothing loading.

The idea of vaudeville/ old style Victoriana - love it, but the site has to provide useful information in a easily accessible format.

The owner says he is very busy and does not have time....then he needs to find a good employee or the people who want to support the local shop, like Sarah, will give up.

I will be in Brighton on Wednesday, I tried to give the opportunity for the owner to source the things I am looking for. Just a mobile number, no response, waste of time.

I still hope it works well but I also hope he gets his act together.

Not sure of the details but I believe the shop may be changing hands.

Had mixed experiences in the shop, but persevered because the idea of a local magic shop is so valuable.

Hopefully if there are new owners they will do something to give the place a proper web presence.
