Steven,

Its not that easy to answer that question for you.

What type do you currently use ?? There are numerous types that all work differently. Your question is like, the oil in my car needs changing !! We can't help without knowing more.

PM me and I'll try to help.

Tenko.

I've got this Nail Writer and it's spot on.
I've never used any other ones so I've got nothing to compare to, but I've had no problems whatsoever with mine.

Please consider Lincolns Best Boon and their Perfect Pocket Pencil. They are the best money can buy.

I was shown a brilliant way of making my own TT writer (rather than nail writer) by a good friend. It's the best I've ever used and can be easily ditched leaving you completely clean. It also costs very little.

PM me if you want more details.

I use the vernet boon which I find really good but different people have different opinions, it might be worth trying a few different types and see what you feel most comfortable with.

I've got on okay with the Vernet boon - with a pencil lead, rather than grease marker, however. The grease marker drags a little too much, putting it at risk of coming loose. Even the pencil lead one can feel a little insecure at times, due to the small size of the base.

Piatt's Scarab is nicer to handle because of the larger base area and the fact that it has a heel, allowing the lead to be rocked on and oiff of the writing surface.

I also have Lincoln's Best Boon, which is a little big, but very stable and nice to work with, for many of the same reasons as the Scarab. The embedded magnet and metal storage tin make loading and ditching a neater process. It can still be lost, however (an inevitable part of the natural thoughtless handling that is required for swami work), and the price tag is a little high if your one of those people that ditches it anywhere and worries about finding it later...

I've never got on well with undernail swamis, but that's because my nails aren't particularly neat or shapely.

And TT writers don't work for me, as I've never found one snug enough.

I've yet to try a band writer - but that's because I'm happy with the Scarab and Lincoln's Best Boon.

I second the scarab - although I have the stylus one.

By far the best is the super sharpie. Great handling, starts & ends clean & all very natural as well as writing in ink rather than pencil

I might have to revisit the Super Sharpie. I didn't get on too well with it.

And I honestly have no issue with writing in pencil. It's only being seen by one person, they'll read it aloud for the benefit of other spectators, and nobody yet has said, 'hang on... that's written in PENCIL!'.

And I know that pencil lead will leave a mark on paper.

When I first unpacked my Super Sharpie, it was already dry. I had to change the innards right at the get-go. I can't imagine the embarrassment of being caught off-guard with a dry swami.

I'll give it another go though.

I always used to use a pencil writer but I found on stage that the person reading it out was so amazed they always turned it round so the audience could see. When I had it videod and this happened it looked like a blank peice of paper as the pencil writing wasn't visible to the audience.

Apparently there was a faulty batch where the gimmick wasn't fitted as airtight as it should be. If the gimmick wobbles at all whilst on the pen it is faulty
