The Effect

As described on the Ellusionist website:

Liquify by Richard Sanders and Bill Abbott

Liquify your spectators' minds
What if you had a way to make a word appear on a piece of paper, and all you needed was some water?

Liquify makes it possible. All you do: Have someone concentrate on a thought. Ask them to imagine their glass of water as a crystal ball and to focus their thoughts into it (you're probably already coming up with your own presentation). Tearing a corner from a piece of paper, you ask the spectator to dip the paper into the water.

Instantly, yet slowly and eerily, like a scene from a horror movie ... THEIR THOUGHT APPEARS ON THE PAPER!

Liquify is self working, there are no angle restrictions and it's always ready to go! This blistering effect is from Richard Sanders and Bill Abbott.

Cost:
$24.95

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1 Easy to do but a day/nights worth of preparation is required to prepare the illusion. Showmanship / flair for credible presentation - to create a memorable performance to lead up to this astounding pay-off.

Review
This is one of those effects that you can't believe that someone else hasn't tried/discovered/written about before. It is a very simple but very clever idea that could really be a show stopper in the right context and could be applied to mentalism, spirit magic/seances or plain old magic. It really needs the right presentation.

The DVD teaches you the preparation of the effect and possible presentations - like book tests and card forces. It describes presentation possibilities and how to come upon the presentation in a natural manner. (Ie the acquisition of your prepared gaffe - without arousing suspicion).

The preparation of the effect requires some trial and error and one - two days lead up time so you'd really have to think ahead to which application you are going to use this for. Ie what name to appear, which word, symbol etc...

There has been on this forum a discussion about an effect that crushes a plastic bottle. That effect uses a scientific principle - but is too obvious for a knowledgeable public (ie those with an average IQ). This uses a physical principle - but will not be known to the general public. (ie not lemon juice or chemical reagent).

Overall
In the right hands this could be a Derren!

Can this be done in a stage setting?
I want to reveal the face of a celebrity on a A2 or A1 paper.
I'm going to use a stencil (to prepare the image), but I'm afraid the outcome is going to be blurry.

Do you think you can make a pretty detailed reveal with the method?
