Maric Glass anyone?

Postby MagicBill » Sep 27th, '10, 12:40

Hi all,

Has anyone preordered this item? The demo video has some nice ideas... I am just wondering about the practicality of the glass for, say, table hopping close-up?

No sure about this item i would have to see it in the flesh.
Just going by the trailer, It doesnt look like an ordinary glass.
And most of the stuff can be done with basic sleights, and an ordinary glass.
The glass through table bit, kind of tips the probable method too.

It's not something you can make, it's taken an old, old version of the btmless tumblr which is at least 100 years old, and turned it on its head.

like i say, Id like to see one in the flesh.

As to how practical it is close up.. My guess is it will be fine in a formal setting, but table hopping, Im not sure. Presumably teh gimmick wears down after lots of use, which will render it obvious. Plus, your audience will want desperatly to handle the glass.

and i guarentee they wont be able too. :)

Hmmm, there were a few bits in there that gave away a certain aspect of the gimmick but i dare say that used in moderation it could still leave people gob smacked.

The end bit with the coin on top that he taps has me thinking tho. i can only think of one method to achieve this!!

I may have been born yesterday but I stayed up all night.

I have to agree with Dale in that it not only didn;t look like a real glass but it didn't sound like one either.

I'll reserve final judgement until I've actually seen and handled one.

I note that more and more dealers are doing pre-order so that they don't get themselves lumbered with dead stock. I wonder just how long it will be before this hits the shelves as it was almost three months that WOW2 was first available to pre-order before it finally arrived.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Basically pre-order means "I can only get this manufactured in rounds of 50 and I won't get it done if that many people don't buy it ahead of time."

Yeah, sounds very plasticy to me. Not a problem until someone picks one up from the table & says, "Do it with that one."

You could always learn how to do something similar with a none gimmicked glass or show them something completely different with it as a distraction but I don't think this is for me.

nah...the body sounds glass, the base sounds "not"...

i have plenty of glasses around the place that look like this - where do you all live? victorian era mexico?

ed fowler has a great presentation using a b*tt*****s glass, and i may buy this one just for that...

I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought "trick glass" as soon as I saw it. Pushing a coin through a sheet of rubber looks a lot more magical.

I'm more amazed that you guys dont own glasses that look just like the maric one

are your keyboards ouija?

i think the maric glass comes with some spare magician's guilt too :)

Iain, the base of this glass is about 3 times as thick as any normal glass.
and it has an obvious white line around it, where the thing joins. :)

another thing about the video. The ring he uses in the routine is a jardine ellis ring. so extra gaffs are required.

all i can say, smugly...is that you were all wrong, and i was right... woooooohahahahaha...

very old school-like (no fishing though please) but with a clever twist... the routines arent for me (but very good) and i bought it for an old routine from ed fowler, which i can...

so very nice indeed, even get a duplicate and a carry-case too...

Got mine yesterday.

I was expecting it to be better made for the price and its a shame some of the routines are only good for a fixed camera or well positioned spec'!

I feel like selling it but will sleep on it a bit more to ponder what I can actually use this for.

Has anyone got any idea or know of any routines that exist for this type of glass, yes it is all glass.
