I'm not denying you're right but this has never
been questioned. It's a sound principle to give reason to your actions, but I have found, through performance of this effect, that in this instance it isn't neccessary (also, I don't normally take them straight off like in the clip, they'll be held ontop of the deck for a bit longer, but there was no reason to do that in the clip). If I were to perform this as a stand alone effect then I would prepare some reason to place the stack onto the deck. I used to do this by itself but I was doing it "in the hands" and so I couldn't put the aces down. In this instance I would strip the aces out, placing them face up on top of the deck, and do the move that way. Then I'd hand the deck to somebody to hold so it was accessible for the final stage.
And I disaggree about misdirection. You are utilising a shift in focus to accomplish something, I'd call that misdirection. You may not be actively misdirect somebody's attention, but you are taking advantage of natural misdirection as people let themselves relax for a moment. Unfortunately, a webcam can't show you that
.
