Eddie Joseph's Premonition

Eddie Joseph's Premonition

This is my review of this incredible effect!

The magician walks onto the stage and asks ANY spectator to name ANY card. The spectator is then invited to the stage and before he even comes onto the stage the magician pulls out a deck of cards from his pocket and puts it on the table. The spectator is then asked to go through the deck and find his card. Much to everyone's surprise, that card is missing from the deck. The spectator is then asked to count how many cards there are in the deck and miraculously there are only 51 cards. The magician reaches in to his pocket and instantly pulls out the spectators thought of card.

Price: $4.95

There is no need to purchase any special props or gaffed cards as this effect uses REGULAR playing cards.

This effect is VERY easy to learn, because there are no moves or forces to learn. In fact, the only time the magician touches the deck is when he takes it from his pocket to put it on the table. From that moment on the spectator handles the cards.

In my opinion this is THE most power mentalist effect with a deck of cards. The secret will amaze you. Eddie Joseph performed this to a group of magicians and after the effect was presented to them they were ALL convinced that the magician that was asked to think of a card was a confederate. I was very doubtful before I purchased this effect, but I was not let down. This is really as clean and direct as it sounds. Not only will it get you great reactions, but it will give you some insight into how powerful the human mind is in being able to be this creative.

Eddie Joseph's Premonition is great for stage, close-up and walk-around.

Anyone on here tried this?

It looks too good to be true and as they say if it looks too good to be true....... it probably is!

How odd, I'd bought this ages ago, read it and forgot about it. It's actually not bad at all.

The effect as explained in the blurb is as accurate as can be. It IS a bold and ballsy effect though, so to perform it to a close group such as in a table hopping environment you'll need good spec management skills to keep the whole group decieved. Pocket space is another consideration too so with those two points in mind it's not likely to be a worker for the table hopper or walkaround performer.

I see its main strength in a parlour setting more than anything else.

I aggree. It does work better for parlor. And it IS really as good as it sounds. I was skeptical, but I thought: "Hey! It's only about $5"". Well worth it.

I first learned premonition from my mentor, who used it frequently as the opener to his Night Club Mind Reading shows in the 60's. In the years sense I've come up with superior methods for handling the original routine idea as well as variations to it, which are actually my preferred mode of use.

Many times I've spoken about minimalism when it comes to the use of a physical deck of playing cards on stage. One of the routine bits I do allows the audience to IMAGINE a full deck of cards while in truth, only one physical card (as far as they are concerned) ever exists... the one revealed in the sealed envelope that's been in full view from start to reveal... never touched by the mage or a member of his staff... my most recent twist to this handling being the introduction of my KIZZ*MET Gimmick (a unique prediction envelope in which the audience sees you place a prediction and seal the envelope. When reveal is made, envelope is opened and only a single prediction slip falls out. However, the device allows for a multiple "out" scenario -- a total of 4 correct answers & reveals.)

The excuse used by most recovering magicians who using playing cards in mentalism is that you have 52 objects that the majority of the public knows and are familiar with -- a convenient collection. My theory, especially when it comes to PREMONITION, is to exploit this "claim" made by our fellows but in doing so, solicit the public's memory of playing card suits, colors, etc and do away with the physical crutch itself.

The modified approach I evolved, has allowed me to adapt a more "Confabulation" style of reveal, when it comes to bits that mirror the original. I've likewise been able to bend the presentation to something more "Metaphysical/Hermetic" vs. the precognitive format it is best known as being.

I would encourage anyone that likes PREMONITION to invest time studying the approach taken by the late Ted Lesley (found in the book PARAMIRACLES) in that you will find a cleaner, less cluttered approach to it all.

Awesome effect. Do not hesitate. I used to perform this very often and would end with the person getting up to find they were sitting on the card they had merely thought of.

Christian Chellman has a 'deadly' application for it.

I would love to know how you can pull that off. Knowing the method, I can't see it working, unless the card is sealed in an envelope and you pull some sort of switch.

Thanks,

If you're referring to the my bit with the prediction card in the envelope... well, study the Joseph manuscript closely and you'll eventually start seeing ideas as to how to do it... there are some other contributions to this the PEMONITION effect however, that you will want to seek out and study as well as a handful of other "advantages" that can be employed... only one of which would use something akin to the old Kismet envelope of Ted Lesley fame
