Uh Oh, a book about mentalism and playing cards? Well I don't see any problem with mentalism and playing cards and I really love Pablo's thinking in this book.
Pablo starts the book off with a little talk about the use of cards in mentalism. He talks about why they can be used and how they can be used. He makes a very good arguement supporting their use. He then goes nicely into a little spectator as mind reader effect in which a spectator correctly names a card selected by another spectator. The method for this is lovely and is something that've already adapted and now use in a couple of my routines. It's sneaky and I like it!
Next in the book, Pablo goes on to talk about a couple of very nice peeks and forces. If you're anything like me and totally rubbish with cards, this section is a little gold mine of information. Pablo's false shuffle just looks so clean and is dead simple to do, a little video really helps here too (nice touch, Pablo). The dribble glimpse is also worth mentioning, something else that's well worth a look at.
In the second chapter of the book, Pablo give us some really nice routines. I'm not going to go over the effects one by one but I will say that I got something from everyone of them. There're a brilliant mixture of old and new thinking which Pablo has put together brilliantly to make the card tricks so much more than just card tricks.
Through out the book, Pablo talks about how the book's not about card tricks but instead about creating an experience for your audience. I think he's done just that.
The book is full of brilliant ideas that have really got me thinking about things in ways I never have before. The little videos included are a brilliant idea and really help you follow the instructions.
Overall I love this book, its a 10 out of 10 from me!
