Card Transpo (because I couldn't think of a better name)

Postby katrielalex » Jun 5th, '05, 16:12

Hi there!

And the next in the series of Kati's irritating videos is...

wait for it...

Card Transpo (because I couldn't think of a better name)

One bad point about this effect, which I'm sure you're all going to notice  is that I count the red queens onto the deck then take them off again, for no apparent reason. Nobody's picked up on it yet, but I don't like it :(. Therefore, can anyone think of a rehash of this effect that could remove this part? I thought of copping off the selection, but I couldn't make that work.

nice, only thing i noticed was the break when you picked up the queens,
its a bit like a trick i do but the one you do's ALOT more complex :P

p.s is it just my eyes or was it a club when u peeled up the card inbettwen the 2 queens?

Pretty good. Here are some tips:

1. Work on your double
2. Make sure you don't flash your breaks

But, another thing, which has nothing to do about your presentation, but rather the logic of the trick. For me, it doesn't make sense, that you put the queens on the deck, to again put them on the table. Anyone should consider that as a "suspicious move". For me, that destroyed the effect. But again, that's not "your problem". For me, that would be enough not to perform the trick as part of a show or something.

Keep it coming :-)

I know . I keep flashing the edges of doubles :(. I guess this is just a practise, practice, practice thing...Kati was thinking of buying Double Take

rcarlsen wrote:2. Make sure you don't flash your breaks.

Damn! I don't usually do that. Morning I guess

I mentioned this in my original post:

I just now was wondering if it could be covered with patter...opinions?

It would go something like, "So we have your card (1) sandwiched between the two queens (2). Now, before we go on, I want to point out that I didn't make you choose this card; you could have chosen any of these (3). Then, you chose the black/red queens, again a free choice, and we put your card between them. We don't need the red/black queens, so I'll just put them away here (4).

1 = bending the middle card up to show it is the selection
2 = stripping out the three cards and spreading them with the selection face-down, to point out the two queens
3 = one-handed fan the remainder of the packet, and almost as an off-thought drop the three-card sandwich on the table to point to the fan, as you say "these cards"
4 = losing ;) the red/black queens in the deck as per a standard sandwich effect

Anyway, thanks so much for the points Rune ;). It's great being a member :).

For my money I thought that the camera was too close....It didn't feel right. But that's me.

Yes, I feel that for the amount of handling done the finale isn't enough of a surprise. It also gets confusing (I found it hard to keep track....this might have just been a side effect of the close camera), as to what's going on.
I found that there were too many possible "moves" to create a satisfactory surprise.

I think some nice clean patter, (perhaps a story rather than "this is your card,")

One idea to elaborate would be to get the black queens, and say they were a jail, and that the person's selected card was a prisoner; and then to get their card to appear between the two red queens in the other pile as a terrible mini joke- "He left one prison only to find he was trapped in another"
"The two black queens searched high and low to find him".

I also found there was too much turning to the back of the cards.
It would probably work nicer if you kept atleast one queen in view for the whole time (whether it just be on the top of the deck of the pile that your not handling).

Hope that helps?

Kat,

I too thought that the routine was too complex for normal folk. I perform mostly in pubs and find that complicated effects loose people. Even half complicated effects loose them

I perform a simple pick a card effect, manipulate it to the bottom. Sort through the pack and locate the queens (assistants), remove them (with the chosen card secretly), count and display the Queens and then reveal the chosen card in between them.

I think your version is 'cluttered' Pick up the pack, then put it down :? etc.

I don't really have a fixed position for the camera, so I just balance it on whatever comes to hand. This time, it was the screen .

I agree that the trick was pretty much too complicated - it was mostly just to show off the switch sleight :P. It's such a cool sleight, imho! You can do it while someone's burning your hands, and you can tell them when you're going to do it, and they still never pick up.

Generally, when someone asks me to do a card trick, I do something like

1. Pick a card, pass / control to the top

3. DL "is that your card" then put down the wrong ;) card

4. Cut to a few more cards, then "are you sure that wasn't the card?"

But that's dead boring to video :P.

If I can get a reliable top change, that would be cool too... in fact, now I think about it, it might be possible to do this as a failed sandwich effect (queens find a card, it's wrong, Kosky Illusion to switch the card for the right card)...hrmm...ideas!
