Iv'e Just found out that one of magic's great all rounders, and link to the great days of music hall & Variety , Larry Barnes, has died.

those that saw Larry, will always remember him, because he wore a full and impressive Pearly king uniform.

Bellow is One of the few video clips of Larry Barnes, performing his Newspaper tear act. This art, is due a revival.
His mix of old time music hall standards, ilustrated with shapes torn from paper, was a classic.

This is horrible news. Larry was behind the counter at Davenport´s when I first went in, and proposed me for membership of the Circle. He taught me to pick locks, and was an all round wonderful person.

Larry Barnes - RIP

I'll miss Larry - I first met him many years ago when he came over to do a British Music Hall at the Palace theatre in South Norwalk. That's when I first saw the Houdini act, the Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo (manipulation), and the paper taring act - which he finally taught me a few years ago in London when I was over for a visit.

I'll remember his humor, and his friendship - many years ago I was given a membership card with Houdini's signature on it - well I was given three - I gave Larry one because he admired Houdini as much as I did - he never let me forget I gave it to him - always retelling the story to anyone who would listen when I would come over for a visit.

I'll remember our sessions at the Circle, and best of all our meetings at the CAA, his thoughts, inspiration, and all his advice over the years.

When I asked Derek Hilton to tell him while he was in hospital that I had just purchased an electric chair for an escape - he said I was mad - I appreciate that from him! I just wish he could have seen the chair and helped me with the act.

I'll say again - I'll miss him terribly - he was such a wonderful person - as Lola says in his write-up on their "Champagne & Smoke" website Larry is/was "the Viceroy of Versitality" - Shakespeare to Lightning Cartoonist, an all around great performer, friend and mentor.

Hey Larry - We'll Meet Again, Don't Know where, don't know when . . . .

There was a piece about his funeral on ITV's London Tonight yesterday, with other Pearly Kings and Queens in attendance. They also showed a couple of clips of him performing.
