This is by far one of the most used card trick in my card act. All the spectators go crazy over it! You can see it in the card trick section of this page and see for yourself. For those who haven't seen it, it goes like this. The magician shows 4 face-up jokers and explains that one-by-one they will appear face down. After a second time dealing through you can see that one joker turned face down. After the next dealing there are two joker faced down. For the third joker the magician simply turns it over. Now there is one joker left. That joker turns over after the magician squares up the pile and refans the packet. Now there are four face down jokers. But when the magician turns the 4-card packet over, amazingly enough they are the 4 aces! There is unmistakingly nothing in his hands except the 4 aces! This trick is fairly simply to learn; any magician that knows the Hamman and Elmsey count will have no problem learning this. Strongly recommended and very affordable!

i use this trick quite regually and im not great at it to say the least, with out giving too much away, there are bits visible to me that shouldn't be but the spectator is so amazed by your ability to turn all of the cards over that this goes unnoticed. you just need to prform it as if you really believe it yourself

This trick is a real cracker and one I use regularly. With so much use, however, I wonder if people know how to "refresh" the card - mine is starting to lose its magic!

Just put on a new piece of d****e s***d t***. You can buy it from most stationery shops.

Aside from Ultimonte and the Colour Monte, NFW is one of the most superb and compact packet tricks available.
The devastating climax works like a charm, and although I've never heard anyone use the trick's abbreviated name in it's full form , I've been quite overwhelmed by some of the responses.

There's mentions here about the 'gimmick' getting old... (peter... try and be a bit more discreet!)...

I've a better all-round solution which DOES NOT suffer the same problem and yet yields the same result. My solution, too, allows a quicker and quieter instant re-set, and is less obvious than the gimmick.

To anyone thinking of buying this, don't hesitate.
It requires a reasonable level of sleight handling and practice to get it right, but it's well worth it.

I can echo the praises of this routine – if you’re new to card counts (like me) then just work at it until you get the initial moves right and the rest of it goes like a dream. Since your audience don’t know what effect you’re going to do the first bit is done and sorted before they’re up to speed on it and you can perform the rest of it with all the theatricalities at your disposal. I’d go so far as to say that you’re performing something so close to real magic you’ll believe it yourself!

I haven’t quite managed to get the first bit as slick as it ought to be but I did a test run on one poor colleague ‘volunteer’ at work and they gave exactly the right interpretation of the letters – No Feasible Way! At least, I hope that’s what they said!

There are quite a few false-counts available which can address the problem.

I still maintain that anyone interested in card magic should own a copy of the Royal Road to Card Magic by Braue and Hugard.

Even the simple packet tricks available can be further enhanced by learning some additional sleights.

Drop into the Restricted area and drop a post... I'll be happy to discuss sleight for this purpose, like the Mexican Turnover etc.

Thanks for the advice as well. I know many people praise "Royal Road", but I don't get on well with Hugard's writing (judging from previous experience). This is such a classic, I feel I should try though! I have been thinking hard about going for "Card College" instead. I'll try one of those routes before pestering you for further advice, but I think a sprinkling of "Wonder Words" might have as good an effect as another count, without arousing as much suspicion from a spectator. It would be nice to have both options, I suppose.
