True.

But one of the other chaps at the table then said that he'd seen someone else discover the secret, as it were, earlier that day, who wasn't a magician.

I'm not making a judgement about the effect. I think it's awesome and would buy it if I didn't mind carrying something heavy about (I have girl scout arms). And, sure, I'd hand it out for examination.

But I'd be a BIT careful about it, as clearly the more determined punter will figure it out.

You know carrying heavy things is the standard cure for girl scout arms, right? ;)
I'm not sure this is the answer, but still.

To clarify, it was me who performed it that evening.

I don't mind a magician examining the gimmick; my "public" specs generally get 10-15 seconds with it and then I go into the "if this block was made of gold it would be worth £15,000" closer.

The other guy at our table was my friend and guest for the evening who is learning magic and generally understands the principles. Plus, he'd been thinking about the IR for over 24 hours.

Whilst I definitely don't want to sound ultra-defensive of my performance, I would hate to sully the opinion of this effect as a real-world worker.

Every real world performance of this beauty has gone down a storm. With even the most basic of audience manageent (taking your deck back) your gimmick won't be found out. TDT - let me know if you want to borrow this for a few days so you can experiment more thoroughly.. :)

Sorry, mate - I misread what you typed - yes it was discovered earlier by a non-magician but only because this person snatched it from my grasp and ran to a location to which I could not access. I've actually stopped performing for this person because they are more interested in the method than the effect. One of your typical "needs to know"!.

Yeah, I was just saying that the gimmick can be found by the truly determined. It's so beautifully made that anyone who doesn't literally try to pull it apart is not going to find the gimmick. Meaning, the gimmick isn't going to be found by accident with casual handling.

The gimmick is beautifully hidden by the texture, like a brushed steel effect.
