INK - MICKAEL CHATELAIN

Postby Flood » Oct 12th, '11, 14:47

Well since everyone on these forums are so helpful to me I thought I'd contribute a fraction back in return

The Effect
You write a prediction with a normal sharpie on the clear cellophane of the card case. Tragically, it's the wrong card.

Everyone stares at the INK on the cellophane... for a moment nothing happens... then like some kind of weird dream creature the INK begins to SLOWLY CREEP and GLIDE along the cellophane... the animated INK gradually RE-SHAPING itself into the correct card! You actually see the black INK STRETCH and get longer in some areas... and SHRINK and contract in others as it VISIBLY MORPHS into the correct prediction.

A spectator can then immediately rub their fingers over the transformed INK to Erase the writing... once again leaving the CLEAR UNMARKED CELLOPHANE. Right after that... you can hand out the case for EXAMINATION. Itís just a NORMAL case!

Cost
$44 Dollars so about 27 pounds for ye brits

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
I'd say 2 because of the fiddly handling

Review
Well what can I say.I bought this with huge expectations and was let down. The Dvd to start is subtitled so you will find yourself pausing and rewinding it as the explanations happen while you try sort out the gimmick and stuff. It kind of reminds me of the Tool Dvd.I don't mind a bad dvd so long as the trick delivers like Tool but this just didn't.

You get your gimmick, dvd and a marker(non gaffed). Now let me tell you about the gimmick. When you have constructed your gimmick and box together you will find that the entire thing is glaringly obvious. For this to work you need to be in a very dim room and a few feet away from the spectators. You can literally see how it works at a normal distance and it looks fake, pathetic and embarrassing to be honest.I can't see this fooling anyone although I have not worked it.What really ticks me off is that what you see on the add is not what you get.The gimmick is not visible AT ALL on the add which to me is misleading and frustrating.

Finally when you do have the whole operation set up you will find it extremely fiddly and flimsy. It's just not practical. When I discovered the secret initially I thought it was super clever. Not long after before I realized it's IMPRACTICAL as hell.

Overall:
Well I think this is a definition of bottom drawer effect. You will buy this and within a week(An hour for me) you will toss it aside and go back to your regular, practical, bread and butter, real world magic.I highly doubt you will see any magician perform this in a few months time when the buzz has died down.

If you have any questions then fire away.I'll be happy to answer

You know, I suspected this would be too good to be true and it sounds like this is the case.
Thanks for your honest review and for saving me a few quid.

Thanks also for the review. Even some of the demo videos didn't look that great, you could see which parts of the writing would fade away. I must admit I'm curious as to how it actually works, but not enough to by it. Might talk a friend into buying it though :)

Interesting that you get a non-gimmicked marker pen...

You could use the pen for the Paul Daniels classic "Marker Pen to Signed Pencil Case". That uses an ungimmicked pen, if I recall.
