Signed & Sealed - Signed card in cellophaned deck

Postby TedTalon » Aug 25th, '11, 23:15

Stephane Jardonnet is known for many solid magic releases including the "Kaps on Fire wallet" AKA the Jardonnet Wallet, and also notably David Stones Basic Coin Magic Vol. 1 & 2 Both still two of the most consistent sellers in the Magic market today. While Stephane has nearly 50 successful releases under his belt, one trick I seen him perform in 2008 has been held close to his chest until now. This is a trick was developed around 2007.

Unfortunately, through much controversy in 2008 in the public forums Shawn Farquhar was not happy that a different method was about to release then his performance at FISM. Even though there is releases of a Signed card to card box decades before. Stephane's Signed & Sealed which is a similar effect, is a completely different method, and clearly developed independent of knowing each others true method. Still that didn't play out well in the public forums. So, Jardonnet out of respect decided to hold onto his method up until now. Which is great for us because it smokes any other method to date....

SIGNED & SEALED - BY Stephane Jardonnet

Description:
Never open a brand new deck of cards by yourself. Have a spectator open it for you, and let them realize that any card can be selected, signed, and then found inside a brand new sealed deck. Which can then be opened by your spectator. The revelation is truly astonishing.

Effect:
A card is freely selected from the deck, and the spectator signs the card. A second spectator holds a brand new deck, still in its original shrink wrapped cellophane. The signed card vanishes from the deck, and appears Signed and sealed inside the deck, and can be opened by the spectator.

The method is brand new and has never been published anywhere before. The effect already exists, but none of them allow the spectator to hold, and inspect the deck at any given time.

You will need some basic card technique skills to perform this trick. It is not for extreme beginners, however, it is fairly easy to learn and perform.

- Comes complete with all the elements to perform the trick, except for the brand new cellophaned deck that you can find on this store.

- Work with any type of deck. The demo is made with a Bicycle 808, but any other type of new deck of cards will do.

- The card can be freely selected or forced, based on the type of effect you want to perform.

- The principle can be applied to many other objects, such as a pack of cigarettes, or anything that opens / closes that is sealed in cellophane wrap.

REVIEW: The trick comes with a DVD and supplied something special to get you started. The packaging is simple cardboard and a paper sleeve to hold the DVD. (Seems to be the direction they are all beginning to go - Cheap) The DVD is in English or with French subtitles. Though the packaging is cheap and the performance of the trick is clearly UN-rehearsed and quite poor. (I would have expected better from Jardonnet) The effect and method itself is quite brilliant, in fact dare I say superb!
The set-up is clearly explained and easy to follow. There is some basic card handling skill required and loosely explained so that one could practice and learn.

Rating this on a 5 star level
Packaging: 2 stars
Performance: 1 star
Explanation & Set-up: 4
Method: 5 Stars

After thoughts: Clearly this trick is not about the packaging or performance. But My dvd didn't break during shipping so that's why it gets higher marks then his performance. You'll see what I mean... lol It's the method that makes this DVD a true gem. I give credit to Stephane for his ingenuity, and clever mind. This is the best Signed Card to box to date!

P.S. I don't write many reviews, so I hope I did you all proud... :?:

Great review. Just watched the trailer and nice to see 70s-style gratuitous titlation making a return. Very tacky for what sounds like an amazing trick.

I have decided to buy this version over Farquhar's

I did read the whole argument between them both on Magic Cafe and actually found Farquhar to be a bit of a brat about the whole thing

It is quite clearly a different method - I can tell that just by watching the two performances and in all honesty Stephane's was more impressive
Am I the only one that thought - how didn't Teller spot that? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ2ebs9F1ek"%20target="_blank

EDIT: I take it back, I watched it again (right til the end this time) and they did spot the switch, they said so themselves.

Still not quite sure how overall it counts as fooling them.
