Has anyone seen the Ken Russell film "Mindbender"?
"Inspired by Uri Geller's Life Story" apparently.

Very surreal film.. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ken Russell wanted that film burried and never brought up again.

Thanks for reminding me of that! Haven't seen it for years!
It came out in the Seventies if I remember rightly.

Has anyone here heard the album that Uri recorded?

Now that's an ear opener....

I'd agree that Brown owes an awful lot to Corinda; I've seen him do tricks that are pure Corinda with a different presentation and I've also seen him do many tricks that, whilst not directly Corinda, are full of the spirit of '13 Steps'.

However I'm not so sure Brown got mnemonics from Corinda. The Art of Memory and mnemonics goes back to the ancients Greeks. From what I understand about Brown from his books he first started flirting with mnemonics when he was doing A Levels, quite some time before he started exploring mentalism.

Someone should maybe print it in a more accessible fashion!

In English maybe?

Lord Freddie wrote:Not as creepy as MJ, but I know what you mean. He's a very funny character. I remember seeing him on QVC selling his 'Mind Power Kit' and one the items in it was a piece of cardboard with an orange dot printed in the middle which he claimed was charged with his 'energy'.
When asked whether he touched each one, he said he put his hand in the vat or orange paint.
I think he's great. He has an answer for everything and is a great entertainer.

I'm not sure what's more  about this post, that fact that people will pay for this tut, or the fact that Freddie watches QVC. :D

Correct, well at least that's what he says.

In fact I believe he mentions about how he started using mnemonics in early school and then learned more about them as time went on and also explains that in Victorian times (if I recall correctly), children learned mnemonic methods in private schools to remember large amounts of important dates, but then it was abolished because it was seen as cheating/somehow anti-Christian.

However when he was in school/college, 13 steps would have been out for a good 15 years or so (correct me if I'm wrong).

It isn't a secret that Derren has read 13 steps. He probably did discover mnemonic techniques before that though, due to his private schooling and precocious nature.

I doubt if Derren learnt mnemonics from 13 Steps. There are plenty of other books which cover mnemonics, Harry Lorayne's for example. Derren uses the Method of Loci, which goes back to the ancient Greeks; one modern author covering this technique in detail is Dominic O'Brien. I use a phonetic system from one of Tony Buzan's books.
