Mentalism Advice

Postby MagicAtlas » Mar 27th, '12, 04:10

Hey there. I have found someone selling the complete mentalism works of Max Maven (Phil Goldstein), this is everything Except the color series, which I gather is contained in the reprint "Prism". It seems to be the more obscure, harder to find stuff. Based on the listing, it is the books Thunday, Thequal, Doth, Amperthand, Fifth, Thavant, Thequal, and Notions. There are videos for sale as well, purporting to be effects performed based on the material in the books, and they look pretty good. What I want to know is does anyone have firsthand knowledge of these books? I know Maven has a great reputation, but I haven't read any of his stuff myself.

Any feedback? Please don't procrastinate the advice to me because I'd like to buy, if the books are worthwhile.

Thanks!

I imagine that an archive of hard-to-find Maven material is going to cost a lot of money.

If you've not ready any of his work then I'd definitely recommend Prism as a good place to start. It's going to be much better value for money (to you) than buying the more esoteric material at a high price. In fact one of the reasons that Max put his colour series into one book was to avoid people spending too much on over-inflated second-hand sales.
