The 2012 Magic Trek - A sponsored event

Postby MisterTall » Dec 28th, '11, 21:54

Back in 2009 a group of magicians walked from Portsmouth to London visiting Magic Clubs and Societies on the way. It was an event called The Magic Trek, which visited Southampton, Winchester, Basingstoke, Reading, Windsor before finishing at The Magic Circle a distance of approximately 106 miles. It raised over £6000 for The Anthony Nolan Trust.

In 2012, The Magic Trek will take place again. This time it will walk to London via Sussex and Surrey. The schedule is as follows...
Wednesday 16th May... Portsmouth & District Magic Circle to Bognor Regis
Thursday 17th May... Bognor Regis to Shoreham on Sea
Friday 18th May... Shoreham on Sea to The ACES in Lewes
Saturday 19th May... Lewes to East Grinstead
Sunday 20th May... East Grinstead to The South London Magic Society, South Norwood
Monday 21st May... South Norwood to The Centre of Magic Arts, London
A total distance of approximately 112 miles

At the moment, a few members of PDMC are taking part in the whole walk. If you are up for a challenge, you are welcome to join us, either for a day or two or the whole route. Coincidently I sent off my spit for Anthony Nolan the other day.

I cannot make it because it coincides with my wedding anniversary however I strongly recommend that you see if anyone in your group works for Barclays. If so they can register for pound for pound matching on anything you raise. They have a huge push on this for 2012 so if no-one in your group works for Barclays try approaching your local branch.

I know other companies do similar things so anyone in the group that works at a large company, as opposed to being a full time magician, should check with their PR and HR departments to see if they can help or will offer support.

Excellent idea! One of our lcoal Churches raised £1400 at their Chistmas Fair in November, Barclays sent a further £700 just because someone who worked at Barclays made the application and were involved in running the Fair.
