Reading my replies should have made it clear that I favour longer custodial sentences and mandatory treatment, which are possible under our legal system.

I am unwilling to detail just how very much "closer to home" this is for me in an unlocked forum.

As a very sensitive and volatile topic, it'll come as no surprise to learn that we are watching this one carefully.

I have no sympathy for this man, as tomo rightly pointed out he has contributed to the sexual abuse of children. However before people voice their opinions on what is obviously a volatile and emotional subject they should probably read this and remember protecting children and reducing attacks is more important than punishing pedophiles, no matter how satisfying it feels.

My objection was that this man was being classified as mentally and needed help as if he were a depressed person.
Certainly what he did was the the product of a sick mind, but by all accounts he appears to be lucid and aware of his actions.

Crime, someone ought to pass a law against it.

The article talks about his receiving/welcoming treatment for his compulsion. Do you favour executing all people who desperately want help with their mental health problems, or just those with self-destructive addictions?

If his mental health problems involve abusing children, distributing pictures of children being abused, creating the images himself (all alleged in the article) then yes, I am in favour of executing him.

Although I met the man on a number of occasions and thought he seemed a decent guy, I would still cheerfully put lead between his ears. People use the excuse that they are only distributing the images or looking at them. But they create the demand for children to be raped and abused. To my mind they are as guilty as the people who carry out the rapes and abuses.

If you abuse children - by deed or by creating the demand - I think you deserve the noose. And I feel the same way about the judge who facilitated him by fining him £500 and giving him a slap on the wrist.

Plenty of strong opinion on this one, as expected.

Now we have a poster with direct knowledge of the person in question, however, it's only a matter of time before this potentially becomes a real issue for TalkMagic.

I'm sure you will all understand that (aside from there being little to add, to what's already been said here) it is in our member's best interests that we calmly draw a line here.
