Conversation As Mentalism

Just recieved Mark Elsdon's new booklet Conversation As Mentalism and what a great buy for £16.

"Would you like to have in your repertoire some killer mentalism effects that you can perform anytime, any place and without any props?
Well good news! Conversation As Mentalism contains tried an tested material that you can start to use immediately.
The Participant's experience of what occurs during these casual performance pieces is this: during the course of an interesting conversation, things take an odd turn and something strange and completely inexplicable happens.
All the effects have been designed with one outcome in mind - to amaze whoever you are talking to without the aid of any gadgets, gizmos or gimmicks."

That's what it says on the cover and for once that is exactly what you get, a 32 page nicely produced booklet containing nine different effects all of which are eminently useable and I'll be doing one tonight. How do you fancy "hypnotising" someone into being unable to win a simple verbal game or being able to predict the change in someone's pocket or forever robbing someone of a useless ability that they never knew they had, it's all there and more.

Now the thing is some of the effects are not knew and will be known to experienced mentalists and magicians but Mark has put his own take on these golden oldies but for me the importance of this booklet is the premise of conversation as mentalism. Mark hasn't provided fully scripted effects because as he says in his introduction he has no idea how each reader of this manuscript speaks and this is the thing, if you just go out and do these effects, you will have at best a series of puzzles but if you take the time to think about how you could steer a conversation in an appropriate direction and script it accordingly then there is potential gold dust in these pages.

I said I planned to do one of the effects tonight, I could do several but I'm only doing the one because I already have a script that will fit this particular effect and that script and this effect will hopefully enable me to create a sense of wonder in the person I have in mind.

Got to say guys I pre-ordered this and it's a great buy and one I'll be giving a lot of thought to. The manuscript will be officially released at the International Magic Convention in London this weekend.
