We used to puppy walk for Guide Dogs and we often helped with street collections. Taking along a cute yellow Labrador puppy of about 8 weeks old - aka The Andrex Puppy - meant we gathered crowds of people wanting to see the puppy, stroke him/her and also put money in the collecting tin. If I'm truly honest I also enjoyed the way the rather pretty young ladies rushed over saying, "Oh isn't he cute, isn't he gorgeous?!!" Of course, I pretended it was me they were talking about.....
It doesn't always work. My man-and-his-chimp double has been banned from literally every comedy club in London due to my sidekicks hilarious habit of lobbing excrement at members of the audience that neglected to laugh.
