Work in progress: ball routine

Over the last 3 days, I've been working on doing sleight of hand with balls based on concepts by Slydini, Eric Evans, and Juan Tamariz.

When I visited the Magic Castle recently, I noticed most of the venues had tables, and since most of my street material wouldn't work standing behind a table, I wanted to work on something that would (other than cards and cups).

What do y'all think?

Excellent work. Really excellent. I congratulate you.

I could be wrong here and there is no way to be sure until you do it for laymen but I think it may be a trifle long. I would be inclined to go over it and see what parts you can eliminate so there is not too much repetition.

But it is really very good. I was expecting it to be bloody awful and was pleasantly surprised. I know how much work and dedication this kind of stuff takes so again I congratulate you.

I see a hint of Yann Frisch in there too...very very good.

Very nice. I just didn't like the starting position, which looks a bit unnatural to me, as well as the position of your right thumb in at 0:10 - 0:15 (I think): its absence while you are focussing the attention right there sticks out a bit...

Thanks Mark! I'm at the stage where I'm just coming up with as many moves and variations as possible. I plan on extending it still, but, of course, will modify it based on audience reaction once/if it ever gets to that stage.

Lenoir, I initally just started with a couple vanishes and productions, and built from there. I noticed the similarity myself as I progressed and tried my damnedest to keep Frisch's wonderful act out of my mind. Genuine frustration and the fact that bemusement makes good cover for certain moves made this last practice run have a similar feel. That sigh of relief at the end is only half-acted; the routine is not yet in muscle memory, so I had many takes with little (or big!) mistakes that forced me to re-try. Also, thanks.

MiKi, you're right. I think I'll try transferring between my pinky and thumb, to see if I can get it to look more natural. Classic palming is out of the question for me as I just can't get it to look relaxed.

I'm far from being any kind of an expert, so take anything I say with quite a lot of salt. Whatever you choose, if the hand still is in an unnatural position, I would work hard on misdirection: find a reason for the *left hand to be in that position and then mimic it with right hand (except that in reality it is the other way round), give the time to the spectator to consider that position natural, maybe move the sleight later in the routine, so that you can introduce that strange position before for something that doesn't really involves it. Or you can find a good reason for making the number 4 with your fingers (like introducing each part counting down from 5 to 1 or something similar). Or maybe you can try a very loose fingerpalm. Or just get rid of that part altogether, since the routine is long enough.
Again, I'm just throwing what comes into my mind at you, but I'm definitely not experienced, so I have no idea if anything sticks or not...
