Human Settlement on Mars in 2023?

Postby Jean » Jan 29th, '13, 15:20

Alright, I love to believe crazy s***. If the word gullible hadn't been removed from the dictionary it would have my picture next to it. Normally I can tell when it's something I want to believe rather than really true or likely. But sometimes I see something so convincing I think it might actually be plausible, despite how ridiculous it sounds.

This is mars one a non profit organization that plans to start a human colony on mars by 2023. Watch the video before commenting.

Now I know that the likelihood of them succeeding is vary slim. I know complications will happen, and they probably won't meet the target set. I know there's a good chance the settlers will be infected with a martian virus that turns them into zombie alien / human hybrids, who will then return to earth to infect us all.

But just the fact that this isn't a joke, that they are seriously giving this a go, is insanely cool.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I think the best thing we can do is to send humanoid robots that are controlled by telepresence. Mind you, I also can't believe that the Moon isn't crawling with privately owned robots by now. It's been over 40 years since Man last set foot up there and there's a lot of high grade pumice - ideal or lining fusion reactors.

Ah, well, I recently re-read this and it's becoming more interesting every time. OK, we're not living on Airstrip One, but some of the other stuff has the decided ring of source material for the nonsense New Labour tried to pull and latterly the coalition.

By the way, Radio 4 is doing an excellent season of his work. the Animal Farm adaptation on iPlayer is absolutely first rate. It's basically his own adaptation for radio. Listen to that, and it seems that the Egyptian people have just swapped one "farmer" for another, much worse one.

Well Star Trek predicted mobile phones and next gen apparently predicted I pads.

And of course every work of fiction from The simpsons to The X-Men apparently predicted 9/11. With all the warnings out there it's amazing no one saw it coming.
