Zenner-Tech by Mark Elsdon

This was reviewed way back in 2004 ftopic3509.php so I won't bother repeating the review. However, Zenner-tech has been re-released and is currently on sale for the princely sum of £20.00.

I watched the demo on Alakazam and I thought to myself, 'I know how that's done. It will easily fool a lay person, but I can't be bothered to make the gimmicks. I'll buy it.'

I 'presumed' it would come with a special gimmick such as the one in 'Tool' by David Stone. That presumption was rather foolish and I've paid for my mistake. What I've actually got is a £20.00 slap in the face as there is no 'gimmick' as such and I already possess everything I need to produce this effect, without buying it. It's all my fault of course. I just wish I'd gone to my stationary cupboard and done it all myself for free.

I'm putting this out there so if someone sees this effect and thinks, 'hey, I'd rather have a professionally crafted gimmick to achieve that, I'll buy it.' Think again. Get yourself down to Rymans and make it yourself for pennies.

I hope these ramblings make sense to those in the know!

Then again, if the creator hadn't come up with the idea then you wouldn't be performing it in the first place having not come up with the idea yourself.

I was aware of the concept which is fairly ancient. I have some Cassidy manuscript from a million years ago that uses a similar method. I can't remember it's name though? Look at something like Jim Critchlow's effect ''til death do us part' I would literally gouge my eyes out if I bought that once I discovered the method. Sometimes in magic you're just hoping for a little bit extra. And you can't pay everyone who's 'created' an effect. 99% of all magic has already been done. We're just buying updates of ancient principles. Nevertheless, I have Zenner-tech so I've fulfilled any moral obligations I may have. I actually like the effect and it's very simple to perform. I've set it up and no doubt be using it in the near future.

In fact, having though about it, I could perform this using 'Tool' anyway. Now I've infuriated myself even more. (Although admittedly it wouldn't look as good)

Didn't mean to sound like I was having a dig, bad day.

I've been looking into some ESP effects & saw this reviewed & had it sussed too but reckon i'll just plump for something like marked ones just for cleanliness. In fact if anyone could recommend anything feel free.

Hey no worries! ;) If you buy the bicycle esp kit you get an amazing deck and a video of all the best ESP effects. Theres a good marking system on there as well. After that I don't think you'd ever need another ESP effect. That said, I really like Zenner-tech. I just showed it to mrs Kevmundo and she said, 'Ive no idea how you did that.' From a woman who detests magic that is high praise in deed. It's a killer effect with a great method.

IMHO this is the best DVD and deck on the market.
