Review - First Hand byJustin Miller

First Hand by Justin Miller

Cost
£26.99 available from http://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/new-magic/ ... iller.html" target="_blank" target="_blank

Note: Saturn Magic kindly provides extra bonus handlings and a PDF of child drawn £5 notes to use in the effect.

Diffficulty:
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
I would say 1, others may say 2, its not even a move, it just happens.. you just to play around with ‘placements’ possibly.. but other than that.. it’s a sinch.
What they say:
You bring out your wallet and remove four single dollars, fold them in half, and place them onto ANYONE'S OPEN HAND. You can even wrap a rubber band around the four dollars to keep them secure. Your own hands are empty. Your wallet can be shown on both sides. The four dollars are in full view on her hand. But when you gently tap her handful of four dollars.. they INSTANTLY CHANGE into FOUR HUNDREDS (Or tens or twenties). Your hands are STILL EMPTY..your wallet can still be shown on both sides...and she can IMMEDIATELY EXAMINE her four changed bills! You never have to touch the bills after they change.
The moment the change happens, the deed is done and there is nothing else to switch or steal!
Remember everything left in the spectators hand is examiable.

PLUS TWO BIG BONUS EFFECTS...
BIG BONUS #1
JUSTIN MILLERS' NO-GIMMICKS "Freedom Change":
The NO GIMMICKS, No Palming, Multiple Bill Change!
Freedom Change is just as easy to handle..just as astonishing to watch..but there are NO GIMMICKS!
Just a five second get ready with your normal bills!
Just as flashy and easy as the other variations of the classic Pat Page effect: Four one's visually transform into four other bills at your fingertips. But the NO-GIMMICKS BILL CHANGE gives you the freedom to use whatever combination of NORMAL UNPREPARED BILLS you happen to have in your wallet! All the changed bills can be examined and used to pay for a purchase. You can even borrow the dollars from your spectator's to make the change!
NO GIMMICKS! NO SPECIAL BILLS! EASY TO DO!
Just a five second get ready with your NORMAL BILLS!
BIG BONUS #2
JUSTIN MILLER'S KA-CHING Freedom to pay your tab by visually transforming your STARBUCKS GIFT CARD into FOUR BILLS!
This is not just limited to changing money the principle can be applied to lots of things even playing cards.
* Change happens in full view on spectator's open hand
* Very Very easy to do
* No palming
* You never have to touch the bills after they change
* Changed bills can be immediately examined
* Perform surrounded and in just about all conditions
* Re-sets in seconds
* Works with most foreign currency
* Customize your gimmick for any bills in two minutes
COMPLETE WITH SPECIAL FIRST HAND SUPPLIES AND JAM-PACKED INSTRUCTIONAL DVD.

What I say:
When I opened the package I didn’t get any surprises. I immediately knew how the effect worked and I was happy. Withing 10 minutes of the DVD, before Justin even got anywhere near the handling of the gimmick or the presentation I have already thought of 4 or 5 out of the box presentational ideas using First Hand, none of which I have seen mentioned anywhere else on any forum.
This is a utility item as opposed to a one trick pony effect. And with just a little thinking, it can be applied to SO many things.
The one issue a lot of people seem to have is the same issue you may have with Extreme Burn (which I do not own) and that is handling different colour and size bills here in the UK. Colour is not an issue, but size would be, so you cannot change a £5 into a £20, or even a £10.. but it’s not really an issue in my opinion.

What I am probably going to do is make some very obviously fake £5 notes that are the same size as a £20.. and present them as misprinted notes and fix the error using the First Hand Gimmick. Or go down the lottery tickets into money or magazine clippings into money.

Even so, there are a lot of ways that this can be used, I have even already thought of ways to use this in a mentalism effect!!

I saw someone somewhere ask if this could be used with a super slim hip pocket Mullica and I can clarify that it can. I use a SSHPM as my everyday wallet and it works brilliantly. Need to be a little careful with the placement of the gimmick, but I found a perfect place to put it which means it doesn’t interfere with the workings of the wallet and placing it here, you could even (not that would ever need to) but Im just saying, you could have the wallet examined (were it not for the Mullica thing going on) and it would never be found!!!

This can be set up in ANY wallet within a minute.

NOTE: Without giving anything away, yes it does work with ANY wallet, but there is a small possibility that you may have to do adapt your wallet ever so slightly to suit. But that is a small note as 99% of people would have a wallet that is perfect.

I really don’t have any negatives to say about this product and I usually can find something. The DVD goes through everything you need to perform this.

EFFECTS

First Hand Change - The refular change. So easy, so visual. Just brilliant

Bill Bound - A playing card is selected. The deck is then placed in the spectators closed hands. A bill / note is placed on top of the specs closed hands and with a tap, disappears to be found wrapped around the selected card. A real world performance and played out well. very easy to do.

Disappearing bills - a stack of bills is placed in the specs hands with a rubber band around them, a second later the bills disappear and teh band is left behind.

This is not as visual as a transposition, but still looks like a nice piece of strange. Sadly there was no real world performance of this.

Bonus effects

Ungimmicked Version

There is even an un-gimmicked version which looks just as incredible, though I haven’t tried this. But this looks just as brilliant and gives you another way of acheiving the effect. And there are a few ungimmicked versions

Drop Change, Throw Change, Wave Change

Santa Clause - A stack of 1's turn into a stack of 5's which are then given away as a tip.

Ka-Ching

And there is also a brilliant credit card to money stash that just looks so visual. change a gift card or credit card into a stack of notes. Just brilliant.

Gimmicks – good quality gimmicks

DVD – Brilliant. Justin teaches this SO well, covers every nuance, and goes into extraordinary detail of the workings and has also put out a bonus section on his site available only to buyers which has some extra effects using First hand

Overall: Just Brilliant. The only negative I can find which is the inability to change smaller UK denominations into larger value denominations is really a negative for a product that offers so much more than that.
The single best purchase I have made for a LONG LONG time...

A Solid 10/10 as I really cannot find any negatives and I can use it for SO many effects its mindblowing!!

I have updated my review to list every effect on the DVD.

I will probably use this quite a lot as I have some really great ideas, a few uses for mentalism effects and other such stuff. I think it will become a regularly used utility.

I would like to know where to get more of the .. "stuff" though.. not that stuff. the other stuff... without givining anything away :?

Great review. I like your tips on how to adapt this for UK notes.

Got this yesterday, opened it up & thought, der...

Then watched the video & it all clicked it, brilliant.
Only downside is the $1 vs the £5 notes that we have.
Anyone got any other ideas than money to use, as with money you have to have at least £20.00 in fivers to hand?

Nothing really comes to mind.. I'm sure you know you can pick up 5 $1 bills from most post offices, and will only cost £3.50, so that could keep the cost down. Other than that you can use Monopoly money
