Hi - New guy from Cheshire

Postby JoshBosh » Dec 31st, '13, 20:18

Hi All,

I'm Josh, 23 from Stalybridge, Cheshire - I've always been an avid fan of close-up/card magic! I've joined up with the view to learning close-up and card magic so I'll hopefully be able to perform to an acceptable standard!

I've just bought The Royal Road to Card Magic as a starting point and I'm going to order a standard Bicycle deck for practising and I'm also considering buying one of the Aristocrats/Artisan decks done by Theory11 - Any opinions of these decks would be greatly appreciated!

I look forward to becoming an active and contributing member to the forum!

Thanks,

Josh

Hi all! Thanks a lot for the warm welcomes so far!

I've got lots of questions to ask as I'd love to start learning as soon as possible - Where's the best place to discuss close-up/card magic?

Cheers

Oh and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I got absolutely legless on Staylybridge station once. If you've been there, you'll understand how

You need to be a bit more specific about what you're after.

If you want to ask a certain question, or need help with a certain trick or move, etc, try asking your question in the supports and tips section

If you're interested in a certain book, DVD, trick, etc, there are review sections, where it may have already been reviewed. Use the search function to try and find it.

There are specific sections, dedicated for different types, viz:

Reviews - books and other printed formats
Reviews - electronic media format
Reviews - tricks and props
Archived reviews - now closed

If you cannot find a review of what you're looking for, maybe it hasn't yet been reviewed. You can request a review in the Reviews request section

Just be careful what you ask, or you'll incur the wrath of Mandrake and you'll end up here

Take a little time to read the rules and you'll be fine :)

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Haha well that's a given Mr.Invisible!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome and all the best to you too Steve!

Lol I've never been in the pub but I know exactly what you mean Tomo! :P

Yeah that would be a bit more helpful wouldn't it Moonbeam!

No not too far at all really, it'd be good to possibly get along to a meeting in the North-West if there ever are any gatherings?

My first question really that I want to ask everyone that practises and performs Close-up/card magic regularly would simply be:-

What did you start with when learning and what helped you learn best in terms of the "foundations" to learn card magic? I.e. what methods/sleights etc?

I'll post up in the miscellaneous area as I'd like the question to get more widely viewed by everyone for the best possible chance of a response :)

Thanks a lot so far guys - A very friendly and helpful bunch!

Hello and welcome!!
If you live in Cheshire I would re-consider buying from theory11 unless you want those cards and none others, as they are from America, and the shipping costs will be a bomb!! :O
There are a load of sites dotted around TM. My favourite are;
- magicnevin.com
- cards4magic.co.uk

They are English, have wide selection, and will deliver very quick. I think if you order over £10 worth of Magic Nevin, you even get free shipping :)
Just an idea, again, unless you 100% want those cards, i'd recommend going for a cheaper alternative.
