Hi there all,

I'm Mr Cat, I believe the standard term is 'Eager Newcomer'! :D

I live in scotland where I've been for a long time now, I'm 36, but the last time I had a magic set or even tried to learn a card trick or two was probably about 30 years ago!
I've been watching Dynamo recently with his new series and was very impressed, and of course like everyone watching that show, I wanted to know how the * he did that...So, some youtubing later, and I found a few tricks revealed and got inspired to try some.

My first ever trick so far is the self righting deck where you appear to mix up the cards then hey presto, they're all the right way round again. Sweet for a beginner because no slight of hand required really, the trick practically does its self. This inspired me to find out more. That was about a week ago, so I'm as fresh as it gets really! My second ever trick I don't know the name of is getting someone to pick a card, having them cut it back into the deck, then looking through and selecting 2 jacks (or whatever cards), placing one at the front and one at the back of the deck...chucking the cards from one hand to the other but three card remain in the first hand and hey, their card is magically sandwiched between the two selected cards.

Not quite enough for a decent routine yet but a nice little start I though.

My main and only real source of info just now is Youtube! I bought a derren brown book a while back and read it, but haven't looked at it for ages and probably ought to read it again. I've seen a few other books on 'mentalism' recently which also intrigues me.

My slight of hand skills are zero so far, but I'm hoping to change that with a little practice.

The long and the short is I'm quite excited about learning some more stuff, and this forum is great. Everyone here has been incredibly helpful and inspiring and I look forward to grilling you more about different effects and stuff soon :D

Cheers!

Welcome to TM!

Many of us will have similar stories so we can appreciate where you are right now. No, not in Scotland but in terms of magic  !

Ha thanks, well you should appreciate Scotland sometime too, it's real sweet when you're out in the wilderness, if that's your thing. :)
